problematic LCR-22

Difficult extraction with different types of ammo. And cylinder binds up. I could see scrape marks on the heads of the fired cases when problem happened. Sent it in for service, came back Friday, work order said cylinder and pawl were replaced. Shot it again Saturday, improved, but problems still there. And now I can see the star shape in the center of the ejector is marking up the frame. Not light scratches, pretty deep marks. Didn't see these marks before the repair. Pics:

They must have worked on the trigger too cause it is lighter. Before it was super stout. I'm going to call in again to see what they say. At this point, this isn't even a range toy.

Dammit, and this was a gun I was thinking of buying too.

Looks like rimfire guns all get the gremlins more then their centerfire counterparts.

$420 for a problem,just great.

Please keep us posted.

Sorry to hear the problems you are having. I don't have the 22 LCR but I do have the 357 LCR. I'm just curious . . . is there any chance that the cylinder arm (for want of better word - the piece that swings out when you ope the cylinder that holds the cylinder center pin) is sprung? If it was, it seems like that would cause the cylinder to sit crooked enough in the frame to cause the cartridge heads to bind and the scuffing on the the recoil shield by the star.

I haven't had any problems with my 357 LCR but I am always careful when I open the cylinder to load and eject. I do remember reading some posts in regards to the cylinder arm and it being somewhat "fragile" - in the eyes of the folks posting the threads that I read. I'm not knocking Ruger - I love my LCR and the other 5 Ruger pistols that I own. If I were to have to find something to complain about (me personally) - it would probably be that the arm is "on the fragile side" - certainly not as strong as my steel S & W or my Colt Python or New Army.

I don't know how you would go about checking to see if the cylinder is "sprung" and sitting crooked in the frame other than closing the cylinder and using a feeler gauge to see if the clearance is the same on each side of the revolver in between the back of the cylinder and the face of the recoil shield. It seems like if it was, you'd be shearing some lead but maybe the forcing cone is large enough that it isn't showing up?

Just my thoughts as I read your post and looked at your pictures. Hopefully they'll get it cleared up - if not, it seems like they should replace it. Keep us posted please. :)

My brother and I both have LCR 22's, and have had no problems at all.

Mine extracts hard with Stingers. It locks up shooting Velocitors. No problems at all with Standard Velocity ammo. I do not consider this a problem, just something good to know.

I also have an LCR 357, and it works just fine also.

Finally had a chance to shoot it after returned from second trip to Ruger. They changed cylinder again and a couple other small parts. Same issues. Star also made a fresh mark on the frame at 3 o'clock, existing mark at 10:30 is now much deeper.

Took vids this time, one of the cylinder binding, other of the difficult extraction. Now before before someone chimes in that I need to chow my Wheaties, be advised that I while I am a scrawny 5'7" 140#s, I work out and can still do 15 pullups at the age of 51. And beefier shooting buddies have same problems with this little troublemaker. Das vids:

Going to email Ruger CS this time and attach pics & vids, see what they say. This will be last try before this puppy goes on sale (with disclosure). On the good news front, my new Ruger American 308 shot great!

edit to change vids over to youtube

Sorry to hear of your continued troubles. I have the .22 and a .38 and both have been problem free.

Those marks are normal I have them, sorry for all the lint, the BIG white dots are marks on the gun.

I have 200+ rounds through mine, blazer doesnt extract right, its too hot for it?(blazer sucks in my Taurus 94 and have a feeling the same is going happen in the S&W 617) have to smash the rod to get it out, Federal/WWB works great.

9mm, your marks seem much lighter. My cell phone camera can't focus correctly where I need it to. The deeper mark at 10:30 is more like a gouge.

Ruger replied already. Said they want it back, will replace with a new one. Can't beat that for customer support. :)

Now I have to decide if I want to try the new one, or sell it off as NIB, use the funds to purchase something else. The 38 & 357 versions of the LCR seem fine from reports posted on the boards. But the problems I've had, and I read about, with the 22 version have undermined my desire to own one.

I handled one a few days ago i didn't take much effort for the gun to hop the star and free spin in reverse during a trigger pull... kinda shocked me.

Just to ask, did Ruger give/send/email you a shipping label?
If they didn't, they should have, as they have for me, but I had to press the issue.

It is on it's way back to Ruger. They give you option of arranging pickup, or they email you a UPS label. I opted for email, printed it, taped it to box, dropped it off. I didn't need to pressure them, they automatically gave it right from it's 1st trip back. Maybe cause it was new, had problems right out of the box. This is a well traveled revolver.

I requested a LCR38 instead of the 22, CSR said she'd try. Figured be easier to sell if I wanted to. Picked it up yesterday at my FFL, got the 38.

Now I have to decide to keep or sell. Already have a P32, P3AT, PF9 and a Shield 9mm, so really don't need another small carry piece. And I don't shoot 38 special, so I'd have to stock another caliber. But I like the thing. Meh, might just let it sit in safe for now. Good problem to have. :D

Why not the 357 model? or would it cost more? I saw a 357 at the gun show $389.99 and I got my lrc22 $349.99.

Sorry about your problems, Ruger really makes good guns and I enjoy my Rugers, 3 of them. I used to have the LC9 but did not care for the ILOCK BS JUNK even S&W has that junk, so I sold it off.
