problem with Rem 870 disassembly...

I am new to shotguns and am trying to disassemble my Rem 870 Express with extended magazine for the first time. I feel foolish for asking but I'm tired of fumbling with it. The instruction booklet isn't organized very well and says little about disassembly. The instructions and pictures are of the 870 with the standard magazine.

I cannot get the barrel out of the receiver. I have removed the magazine cap and the spring but am unable to move the longer portion of the magazine or remove the barrel from the receiver. The instruction just say to move the carrier half-way forward, remove magazine cap and the pull the barrel from the receiver. No further instructions. I have lightly oiled the discernable joints with no better results.

Please help. Thanks in advance.

I got ya on the other forum.

Your problem is, some gorilla at the factory screwed the coupling on too tight.

Use a pair of leather padded pliers to unscrew the coupling from the gun's magazine tube.

When reinstalling the coupling, just screw it down snug, then one more "click".
You should be able to unscrew it with your fingers.

To reinstall the magazine extension, screw it into the coupling until it JUST snugs against the gun's magazine tube.
DON'T over tighten the extension tube since this may cause it to mis-align with the gun's tube and cause jams.

yeah they musta tightend the piss outa them, i like to change my barrels a few times a year to keep them loose and ready to be swaped, i love how easily my 870 wingmaster can be changed from modified to a rifled barrel :)
