Problem with my new KIMBER

I just bought a new Kimber last week, brand new from a local "outdoorsman" chain store.
The problem was the slide was so tight that when you pull it back and release the slide slowly it wouldn't go forward by itself. Is this unusual for a brand new gun?

Field Strip it, Clean off the original oils and grease, re-oil with a quality oil, and fire at least 500 rounds through it.

Just my thoughts!

If the slide is tight after cleaning, you might take it to a gumsmith and have it lap in with laping compound.

Be lay that order. No offense intended to char, but if it is a new gun do not let a "smith" touch it before talking with Kimber. Most manufactures/custom shops frown on someone else messing with "their" gun. Once someone else has fiddeled with it they may not want to honor any warranty it may have.
That does not sound right to me but then I am not a .45 auto man. Some of the other, more knowledgable, members will come on and share their experience.

I was promised a Shortycicle and I want a Shortycicle!

An "outdoorsman" chain, eh.

This sounds awfully familiar.

Hey, look at it this way. At least you got a new gun out of the deal. (And a free box of Hydra Shocks too!!!)

If this is who I think it is, welcome to the firing line! I think that you will find a wealth of information here. Another forum that I might suggest is www.1911forum.com. If this is not who I think it is, then this post makes little sence, but welcome to you anyway!

P.S.--Sorry about the minor fiasco at the store. Hopefully it will work out well in the end.

You didn't state which model Kimber. Having a tight frame to slide fit is what most competition shooters strive for. Having said that, I agree with whoever said, "Talk to Kimber". They will probably tell you to strip and clean it. Then shoot it in. However, depending on model, it may have been designed to be a tight fit. Milspec pistols don't have that fit. So, call Kimber and follow their advice. If you still don't like the results, call them again and ask to send the pistol back.

I must reiterate though, having a tight frame to slide fit is not a bad thing. You should get great results with this pistol. IMHO.

Thanks for the replies, (it was a KIMBER CUSTOM by the way) the store was kind enough to replace it with a new one, and gave me a box of HYDRA SHOKS which I guess was fair enough coz now I have to wait 7 more days to get the new one.
Can't wait to get it so, I can resell it right away and buy myself a SPRINGFIELD 1911-A1 LOADED. :) :)

Why in God's name would you sell a new Kimber to buy a made in Brazil Springfield? I have owned about every brand 45 there is, including Wilson custom. For the money, in my opinion, nothing beats a Kimber.
Good Luck
45 Shooter

Ive had a Kimber that would hang up out of battery when hand cycled, it turned out to be a very funky profile on the disconnector. I had the gun tuned at Novak's, mentioning the problem to them and no problems since. If I had it to do over again I would take the Stainless Springfield Govt loaded model.

ok that Kimber was bad. Why would you want to sell the next one and lose money just to buy an inferior model? IMO you should at least try the new Kimber and see what you get.
