Problem with my Model 1934 Beretta

I hadn't fired my old Beretta for some time, but it performed flawlessly at the range a few days ago. I later field stripped & cleaned it, but on re-assembly found that the recoil spring prevented the slide from traveling back to the lock back position. Anyone have any suggestions?

It seems unlikely that anything is broken -- my guess would be something simple like a slightly incorrect placement of the barrel, guide rod, or recoil spring.

None of this is specific to the Beretta 1934, mind you. I don't have one. But from what you posted, and the fact that everything had been working just fine, this would be my first guess.

I have taken my 1934 apart and reassembled it several times and cannot duplicate your problem, with the slide stop removed can you operate the slide fully? Do you have the recoil spring guide turned where the steped down portion is going into the frame? They seem like stupid questions but the pistol is so basic a complaint is rarely heard.
Make sure the barrel has been pushed as far forward as possible.

I've field-stripped mine annually for 30 years and have never had a problem, but the guide rod seems like a probable culprit.
