Problem with Contender Action

I changed barrels on my 14" Contender to a .223. Before doing any firing I tested it out and the action worked fine. I was using new Russian .223 56 grain steel cased ammo and the action became very stiff and after 12 rounds would not open at all.

When I got home I held the spur back with two hands while my son exterted pressure on the barrel. The action openend up & I removed the spent round. It seems to be working fine now both empty and with an unfired round in the chamber.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

off the top of my head, check the primers on the rounds you fired, see if the primers are working out of the pockets, this would bind the gun up.

Sounds like upon fireing the case is expanding in a way it shouldnt be.
You may want to go by a box of winchester or another factory makers bullets and see if they do the same thing.
Sounds like the ammo.

That's pretty much what I suspected and Thompson told me also. Guess I'll have to get some of the expensive stuff and try it out. Thanks for the input.

Just as a follow up I tried a couple of different types of Remington & also Winchester hunting ammo. No problem whatsover. Anyone want some Russian .223 cheap?

Some guns are finiky...some arent.
But I'll pass on the ammo thanks ;)

Glad you got ti straitened out :)
