Problem with a Parker

My boss bought a 12 guage double barrell parker last spring.

Yesterday he decided to take it on a pheasant hunt with him. This is the first time the gun has been fired since he has owned it. Whenever he would fire the first shot the gun would come unlocked. He said he tried to get the gun to unlock several other ways and couldn't get it to, yet everytime it fired it would unlock. He said it would do it with either barrel firing first. Luckily his day wasn't ruined because he had brought a trustworthy backup.

I told him I would ask you all about it while he tries to locate a gunsmith that can work on such a nice gun.

Thanks

Not my field of expertise, but...

Many unlocking probs with older shotguns are due to wear of the locking bolts, and/or grunge buildup. It's a job for a decent smith.

The good news, it should be fixable at reasonable cost. I dunno if the Del Grego family is still doing Parker repairs, but an internet search should turn it up. By and large, these are the best people to send it to.

Yes Dave the Del Gregos' are still in business.

I'm told they are the one to go to if you want your Parker worked on.

Definitely sounds like wear. Problems like this can be fixed by a competent double gun gunsmith.
