Problem with 1911

I have a problem with my 1911. When the weapon is lock and cocked and I pull the trigger to see if it is on safe the hammer will fall. In other cases I pull the trigger with the safty on and the hammer will not fall until you take the weapon off of safe. Any suggestions would be helpful.

There's a problem with the hammer, sear, or possibly the safety.

Take it to a qualified gunsmith, and DO NOT load or fire the gun until you do.
It's UNSAFE to use.

Did someone take the gun apart (down to the frame) and put it back together? Did the gun come like this from the factory or did this just develope? If it came from the factory like this, send it back!

It sounds as if you have a thumb safety thats not fit right, there's been to much metal removed from the lug on the thumb safety that blocks the sear.
This can be a dangerous situation and should be corrected immediately.
I would not carry this gun cocked and locked in it's current condition.
If you do not feel qualified to do the repair yourself then take your gun to a qualified smith to repair it for you.
