Pro Ears Muffs - Too Loose

I bought a pair of $40 Pro Ears ear muffs to replace my $15 Silencios. Since I'm shooting uspsa now, thought I needed to upgrade. However, these new Pro Ears are not tight enough around my head to create a seal around my ears. Now I've never been accused of having a small head, and I've never had this problem before. My $15 Silencios protected my ears better and the new ones had a 6db better rating.

Am I missing something here? No matter how small I or large I adjusted them, they just did not seal around my ears. They are just horrible. Feel like I wasted $40 but I've heard the name before and a lot of people like them. Did I just get a defective pair?

My $250 Pro Ears aren't anything to write home about. I can't get a good enough seal with mine for shotgun or rifle use. Anything indoors, they don't do the job either. The $25 pair they replaced did better. I contacted the manufacturer and they sent me another headband....no difference. I had a shooter from Belgium contact me when he saw my review on my site. He had the same problem and finally got a refund from the manufacturer. If I squeeze the ear pieces against my head, they work much better....just kind of difficult to shoot that way.

I'm going to give the company a call next week, see what they say. I got them from Brownells but I threw out the packaging not imagining I'd have problems with passive ear muffs. And I returned 2 holsters to them in the past couple months so I don't want to abuse their return policy. Hopefully Pro Ears will make them right. They just have zero spring in the headband so they are loose, which makes them useless.

I've been using the PE electronic muffs for about 5 yrs and they've been great
in performance and fit. I shoot indoors and outdoors...up to 50 BMG, in which
case, I dbl plug. The thick cups do tend to impinge on a good cheek weld with
the 50 cal rifle so I may look at thinner profile muffs.

zenner22,
If you would, shoot me a PM or post back here and let us know how it goes.

I've not contacted their customer since the last time. The lady gave me some grief regarding my not turning in the warranty card. After I got home (I had called while I work), I checked my paperwork and verified that I had used their web site to register. I guess their internal business process works as consistently as their hearing protection.

I contacted Pro Ears and talked to a nice lady who took care of me since their Customer Service personnel were out at lunch. Once I explained the problem was with the passive muffs she said she'd send out a new head band to me. She didn't ask for proof, but I explained I ordered from Brownell's and threw out the packaging. She did ask how long ago, which was a few weeks. I got the feeling this happened from time to time with their products. She said something about the head band maybe being at the end of the line during production, which could cause the problem somehow.

Don't know, but they were nice and are sending me a new band. I'll post back when it gets here.

Please do....I am interested in seeing if they have managed to make a band that provides a tighter fit.

Received the replacement headband today. Unfortunately I went shooting before the mail came! Going to be a couple weeks before I can test it on the range. But I switched it over and it does feel tighter. I'll report back when I find out for sure.

I bought a new pair of muffs before I retested the Pro Ears with the new head band. First, the new muffs were a pair of Howard Leight Thunder 29 folding earmuffs. Got them for $19.99 from CDNN. Thought what the heck, seemed cheap enough and didn't trust the Pro Ears.

The Howard Leights are great. Took them to two competitions and they are tight on the head, muffle sound like they are supposed to. They really exceeded my expectations and am very happy with the performance. I highly recommend these muffs.

The Pro Ears... well, the new head band was a bit tighter but these $40 muffs do not compare to the $20 Howard Leights. To be honest I feel I wasted the money on the Pro Ears. Do not buy them, there are better and cheaper options out there.
