There's a staunch pro-2nd candidate running against an anti incumbent, Gerald Kleczka, in the 4th district in Wisconsin. The pro candidate is Tim Riener. Although he hasn't held elective office, his credentials are impressive: a master's degree in economics, a Marine veteran and support from some very influential political folks in the state. I
spent almost two hours talking to him on the phone yesterday, and he has his head screwed
on right. I think he has a chance. If you'd like to help him, you can reach his campaign
at 414-768-0148.
People always have said that the 4th district
couldn't be taken away from Kleczka, but remember this: in 1998, 49.5% of the vote for Senate in the district went for Mark Neuman.
In that same year, 62% of the vote in the district went to Governor Thompson. In 1994,
47% of the vote went to Tom Reynolds against Kleczka, even though Tom was grossly underfunded and had 0% name recognition. In '96 and '98 Reynolds still held in the mid 40% range. Kleczka _can_ be beat, but not without your help.
