PRK "Unsafe Handguns" purchases

Well, on Saturday the missus and I bought a pair of "Saturday Night Specials", you know, the dangerous, deadly SIG 229 and 239! After 12/31 these will no longer be available, because of the "unsafe" design with no manual safety!

Thanks to the "one gun per month" law already in effect, I can only buy 2 more before the end of the year. Any suggestions? I was thinking of a Steyr M40 next, it has a "manual safety" but to date they have not bothered to have it drop-tested.

Any other automatics I should be looking at that will be "verboten" soon?

The CA penal code actually reads 'safety device' as determined by the BATF. Glocks, Beretta, S&W, and any other quality DAO pistol will qualify, as will any quality DA revolver. This is basically the Mass gun test implemented in the PRK. If you want a whole lot of detail, go to the CA DOJ firearms page.

I believe the Glock sqeaks though, as the trigger safety meets the BATF designation of an external manually operated safety.

The Sig has nothing like that and the BATF does not say it has.

It is a moot point anyway, only 15 Ruger models have been approved so far. The question is: Will the manufacturers bother, especially if LE sales are exempt anyway? It depends how big their private market sales are.

Suggestions? Move to Alaska!
