Is it legal in Texas to sell firearms to qualified individuals without the background check, etc..?
How should I go about making the sell? Get a copy of their ID and a signature acknowleging the sale??? Thanks.

Dear Friend,

This is one of the most beautiful things about living in Texas! Just sell it to him.

If I were buying from you, and you wanted a copy of my I.D., I'd say, "Forget it."

Just sell him the gun and that's all!

C.Y.A. Cover your ass.
I understand it politically but I guess I need something as proof just in case something tragic happens.

I've kept a log book for a number of years; I log in the guns I buy and log out the guns I sell. That way, I have serial numbers to report should a gun get lost or stolen (Stuff happens, even when you're careful.) and I have some evidence of when a gun left my possession.

Should the times change and the need arise, paper burns...

About the only area of the law of which you definitely should be careful is a sale to a minor.

Art is correct. Just don't sell to a minor. Sell the gun to his parent, and let them "give" it to the minor. Of course this could be considered a "straw-man" purchase, but I wouldn't let that keep me up late at night.
I too would refuse to purchase from a private individual who requested my ID. It's none of their business.

If you are ever buying a gun privately and are asked for I.D., pull out your driver's license--which is readily recognizable as being from Texas--cover your name and address with your thumb, and let the seller glance at it. That tells him all he needs to know, that you're a state resident.

If you're selling, it's reasonable that you ask for 'the glance'; don't want to be set up--it COULD happen...

Agree with weegee. Just verify that the buyer is a resident of the state of Texas.
