I am considering a ccw permit but registration and finger printing means giving the govt a lot of personal information .How do you balance the right to carry vs. personal information you give up?

What information do you NOT think the gov't doesn't have already? If you have ever worked, they have your social security number and a lot more - as do many other agencies, companies, etc.

If you were ever military,,,

They have it all already.

Unless you have lived your life like a veritable hermit,,,
The only thing they might not have is a sample of your fingerprints.

And if they wanted said sample,,,
They would just get it.

No sense in sweating that small stuff,,,
Get your CCW and get past the fear of Big Brother.

They already have us anyways. ;)

.

Yeah, don't sweat the small stuff, just the big stuff.

Like the satellite that's reading your thoughts and the invisible black helicopter that's hovering over your home. :p

I've been fingerprinted so damned many times (used to work in the banking industry, have had permits in two states, and now have a gov't security clearance) that the only time I question stuff like that is if someone in the private sector starts asking me for information like that.

I beg your pardon? You're a damned furniture store. No way in hell am I giving you my social security number just to purchase a sofa!

Government has no authority to collect information about us, nor demand we ask its permission to exercise our fundamental human rights.

Going through the motions of deferring to government is the lesser of two evils.

Choosing the lesser of two evils is a sorry substitute for choosing the greater of two goods.

You could move to Arizona, or Alaska, or....

But they already have your information. What they already know about you might shock you if YOU knew.

No offense intended, but you must have been asleep for the last century or so Rumplestilskin! We haven't been treated like true Americans by the feds in a long long long long time ...

+1

Off hand, I can think of at least 6 different agencies that have my fingerprints. Heck, the military collects DNA samples, so I suppose mine are still stored somewhere....

OK, I can see that this is going to tip over into a politics thread pretty quickly. The OP has made his decision, so there's no need for this one to stay open.
