I have a box with all the parts to build a 1911. I intended to build it myself and have aquired all the tools required. I would probably do a functional job of it. However, my schedule is crap now and will only get crappier for the foreseeable future. So I am now considering finding a decent smith (not a "name") to finish it up. I am sure the parts list is complete and compatible with each other so what is left is the fitting.
Purchased parts include:
Schuemann bull barrel .400" bore with para ramp (to be finished in 10mm)
Caspian Damascus 5" slide with reverse plug cut and BoMar rear sight cuts, dovetail front
Caspian ghost ring rear
Tritium front
Stainless frame with 30 LPI checkering, beavertail cut, and mill out for para ramp
Wilson parts for everything else
So am I looking at a few hundred bucks? Over a thousand? Completely dependant on the smith, impossible to guess even a ballpark figure?
