Price points on new guns at Shot

Watching some videos - there are fun things but I don't understand pricing.

For example, Kimber has a new micro 1911 380 - for > $700.

The Sig 938 - which looks equally neat but same high price range.

I can get a Glock 26 for the 450 range or a 642 for 380. I really don't think that the extra price for those is worth it (at least for guys with my tax returns - not to be released). There are lots of cheaper 380s around.

Just a thought.

I think those prices are pretty much in line. Just look at how much folks are shelling out for the colt mustangs before all these new models

You are hearing pre-release MSRP's, be patient they will be less in due time.

And the retail price will be absurd. Don't forget the beta testers will be kicking down doors to get at those new guns, that will keep the prices at or above MSRP for a while. I agree, with Glen. I'll also add that nothing that came out really called out to me, except maybe the XD slim. All and said and done, I'd say it was a pretty disappointing showing, at least for the handguns.

There's a big difference between MSRP and street price in my neck of the woods.

Of course, if Kimber's going to release a .380, I'd really like to see the 9mm Solo guns they were pushing last January reach the market. Same goes for Sig, Kel Tec, and numerous other manufacturers who have a terrible track record of overpromising and underdelivering.

Ruger gets a pass for actually getting the SR22 to retail before SHOT.

Even with street discounts to come, they seemed pricey to me.

I was interested in a 9mm EMP - but for $1000 - nope. My G26 works fine.

I'm toying with trading a closet lurker for a LCR in 22LR for a plinker trainer of my snubbies. Tried a LCR this weekend and liked the trigger.

I really didn't see anything so far that really was a paradigm breaker. An assault Lever action?

You're comparing an all steel machined 1911 style pistol to a injection molded Plastic Glock. There's a lot of extra work/material costs involved in the 1911.. Hence the higher price.

If you're on a budget, and need a pistol that works well, the Glock is a fine choice. A quartz Timex keeps time as good, or better than a Mechanical, Self Winding Rolex, but everyone understands why one costs more than the other.

One is an appliance, the other is something akin to mechanical artwork.

I happen to own, and like both types of pistols.... And watches.

Oh, not to mention that whole "What the market will bear" thing from economics 101. My guess is that the MFGs have hired lots of smart folks to determine just how much they can charge for an item before too many people decide they can't afford it.
