price of model 58?

I noticed a blue model 58 for $500. From what I have seen I thought this was a good price for one of these (ANIB from the description). I really need (another) one of these. BTW, how about 95 or 98% condition?

$500 is high, I'd say.

I paid just under $300 for mine 2 years ago, which is a very good price in Northern Virginia. It was about 98 to 99 percent. Normally they go for about $400 here.

Maybe a TAD high

is 500 in your door ? If so AND it's AsNIB you might best suck it up. Most 58s were used pretty hard. Good Luck,,,,dewey

I've never seen any of these around in the gun stores. I've only seen them for sale on the internet. Do you see these often? It seems to me that they are becoming hard to find.

MD,

I've seen 3 or 4 in the last 6 or so years in Northern Virginia. They are not at all common.

The one I bought, the one was in a shop where I worked, a pretty ratty example (very holster worn) for almost $400 (the owner was insane with his prices) and 2 at gunshows for between $375 and $450, IIRC.

I passed on a model 58 with about 60% of the finish gone at $350.00. This was at a local Gun show and the seller was churning it. He had purchased it a day earlier. I do not know what he paid. In retrospect I should have tried for the revolver and taken it home. So it goes.

Cherry 57s a lot easier to find and dicker on.

58s were work guns and nice ones do seem scarce.

Price just a little high soundin to me but in that condition, still a good deal. I would rather hold out for a well worn one cause I would carry it anyway and twood be a shame to rub a couple hundred bucks off just with holster wear.

Will those of you that are sucking these things up in batches please share the wealth with other gun nuts? :D

For heaven's sake, my poor roomie had to do his .41 Mag 4" totin' gun on a 57 because someone has sucked up all the 58s. ;)

It's a simple pledge: "I, (your name here), since I already own a half-dozen .41 Magnum M&P's, promise to give another gun nut a shot on the next one I see, because I obviously have an uncanny ability to stumble across examples for sale". Thank you.

Other than a 100% specimen for collectors, why do M58s bring so much? I would think they would be less desireable for sporting use than the M57 and most folks probably wouldn't care for a .41 Magnum M&P for defense, would they?

I bought a police trade-in M58 years ago when I had an FFL. I think I paid about $200 for it. Soon after I passed on a 98% gun in nickel and have been seriously kicking myself ever since. It was priced at $300 and I thought it was high but now that gun seems so delicious I can't recall why I passed. Oh well.

I still would think around $300 for a decent M58 is right but I see them bringing more. I guess somebody wants them badly.

www.gunsamerica.com has two M58's on their website. One is 90% for $675. The other is $600 and has been "improved." :barf:

I'm just wondering why these people think they are worth that much. The first one looks like it would be ok, if it wasn't for the price.

Smith & Wesson model 58, .41 magnum-

Great gun, and prices are going thru the roof. Here in "the
deep south", the last one I saw sold for a shade over $300;
but that has been quite some time ago. Nowday's, I would
expect to pay around $425 for one in LNIB condition. Just
my thoughts-

I could see $300-$400 for a 98% or better gun, collector value you know, but since most were working guns there are many examples out there in the 75% -90% gun that should come in under $300. In fact if anyone is going to the Houston show the first weekend in June there will be a mod 58 for $275 at a table on the right side across from Docs tables (across toward the entrance). Mechanically it is in good condition, but it has been reblued. So what if you want a good shooter that is the way to go.

I think most people would not carry the 58 because they're big, heavy and only hold 6 rounds, they not the lastest high tech 9/40/45 or 357sig pistols, however if i had one i would carry it in a heartbeat, those who would not don't know what they're missing.:D

I occasionally carry my 4" Model 28 in a Bianchi "clamshell" shoulder holster.

Don't do it often because I don't like the way the Bianchi really fits, and it's tough as hell to quickly draw the gun.

I often carry a 4" 29 in a Silouhette high behind left hip.
I often carry a 5" 27 in a Silouhette high behind right hip.
Sometimes either in special coat pocket holster inside left breast.

I do NOT carry N frames in ankle holster.

Mike big.....me small.............Ns work for both of us.

IMHO, PWL Leather makes the N-frame toting rig. Have used mine to CCW both my 3" 629 and my 5" 625.

Not at the same time, of course. ;)
