I've been looking for a scope to put on my Remington 700 ADL in 308.
This is going to be my primary hunting rifle for next year and decided to put a mid-range scope on it.

In my research I came across Bushnell 4200 Elite 3-9X40 scope for just a little more than $200. This is surprising since these scope were selling for almost $400 range just two years ago. I have experience with one other Bushnell 4200 series scope and they are great scope... comparable to Leupold VX-3 series.

Anybody know if these are same scope as from 2 years ago or are they different. Maybe they moved production to China?

I have a couple of 4200's in 2.5X10X50 with the #4 Reticle and cannot complain one bit on them. Great low light, bright sunlight or inclimate weather scopes. 30mm tube on thes models are a bonus and they are every bit the scope and more than the VXIII's I own. Between the two of them, zero hasn't moved at all and 9 deer, 1 yote and two stinking pigs are dead at their credit this year alone.

My project rilfe of the year is a 700 SPS Varmint in 7mm08 and I am considering another one for it if I can find one.

The 4200 series has been discontinued now Bushnell just sells Elite and Elite 6500 series scopes. While I agree the optics are good and the scopes seem very durable. However, from what I've read on Bushnell's customer service leaves a lot to be desired as far as getting them repaired if needed.

You can question it all you want but Bushnell doesn't list them as 4200 or 3200 anymore. Bushnell now just lists their Elite series scopes as Elite, Elite 6500, Elite Tactical, and Elite Handgun. Sure you can find Elite 4200 series still on their webpage but it isn't their current model. Is it the same scope? Probably with maybe a couple of updates as the 3200 & 4200 designation was a hold over from when these scopes were sold under the old Baush & Lomb Elite lable.

I've bought a couple of these Bushnell Elite 4200s from Cabelas and they are EXACTLY the same as the older ones. I've had no problem with either of them and Bushnell customer service is second to none. You get the Elite warranty with these scopes and you will have no trouble getting service out of Bushnell. I believe Cabelas sells so many of these scopes that Bushnell is still supplying them with the product. They keep running out of them and always get more. I would not hesitate for a second on buying one.

+1 ON THAT! TO NOSECONDBEST

SAME PACKAGING, SAME NAME WITH THE WORDS ELITE 4200, SAME SCOPE AS MY OLDER ONE, WITH THE SAME QUALITY AND WARRANTY, NOTHING HAS CHANGED AS FAR AS THE EYE CAN TELL... BUY IT YOU WON'T REGRET MAKING THE PURCHASE

I stand corrected the elite 4200 is no longer listed as a buy now item on the bushnell website, however the elite 3200 is.

Probably NOS, and at the prices that they are asking I imagine they will sit for awhile longer.

Anything marked as a 4200 is the same, well made Japanese scope. I just got one of the 3-9x40mm models. However, note that in Bushnells new Elite series, the side focus 3-9x models are Chinese made, but the higher priced non-side focus models are still Japanese made.

I ordered two of them and they came in yesterday. For the price I couldn't resist buying two. They are made in Japan and the optics are great. In comparison to my VX-3 I would say they are about same in the day light but in the dusk the Bushnell seemed slightly brighter.

I will be mounting one of them on my Rem. 700. The second one will sit in my safe until I find a use for it.

I had a 4200 Elite 3-9x40mm that was purchased at the same time as a VX-3 3.5-10x40mm. The 4200 was put on a Marlin XL7 in .30-06, and the VX-3 replaced a scope on my Ruger M77 Mk II; with both rifles being used for the same duties.
At first, I thought they were fairly equal in light transmission, clarity, and other important factors. But, things changed, with real-world use.

After 9 months of use in field conditions, the VX-3 absolutely blew away the 4200.
What really sold me, was low-light conditions. The 4200 just became hazy and unpredictable; while the VX-3 actually allowed me to see better than with the naked eye (color, clarity, and light).

At the 11 month mark; I sent the Bushnell back, to take them up on their "Money Back Guarantee". I paid $299 for it (great sale price, at the time), but 11 months worth of use left me feeling like it wasn't even a $150 scope.

I just put two new ProStaff 3-9 X 40's on my rifles (BDC reticle) and initially they seem good. I wished I would have bought the Vortex Diamondbacks because of the tremendous reviews they are getting but I'll see how these Nikons work first. These are the new ones that I haven't seen a review on yet.
