Price of a rechamber

Well, you can't just rechamber from .308 to .338, you would have to rebore the whole length of the barrel and rerifle. That is a $295 job at one shop I know of.

Replacing the barrel will cost more.
 

But replacing the barrel is the right way to do it.....

Then you get exactly what you want and, if it's a decent barrel, it'll outshoot most factory barrels.

This might be one of those moments where it makes more sense to sell your rifle to a friend, and buy one in the caliber you want.

Remember also that the diameter of .338's bolt face is larger, so some additonal work, if possible, will be required there.

Hey, look at it as an excuse to buy another rifle. If it were up to me I'd hang onto the .308 simply because its an inexpensive centerfire to shoot, easy on the ears and shoulder, and will do the job on nearly everything in the lower

umm... 338 Fed is a necked up 308... How is the bolt face larger?

And I think that only Sako and Ruger currently chamber complete rifles in 338 Fed.

Its not a wildcat but it might as well be, not a lot of manufactors jumping on board, wish they would, i like the concept of this round!

1. New barrel.....est$......100.00----250.00
2.thd., chamber, contour, bla bla bla...est$...125.00---200.00
3.Reblue (chromemolly)...est$...75.00---125.00

That or buy a new rifle, is it worth it...IF YOU PLAY YOU PAY, is it worth it, YUP

Costs vary depending the shop or smith. We were in a gun shop a while back that also does smithing. So I ask costs on a rebarrel I have been contemplating. His prices without a barrel was more than the last quote I got everything included, barrel and all. I know the cheaper shop does quality work. Get references some Smitty's are good craftsmen some are comparable to backyard mechanics
