Price for win 70 pre 64 ?

Ok I have a gun, don't like to sell any guns and especially one that shoots .5 MOA. But like some others have extremely medical bills and figuring what to do. Anyway the gun is a 58' Winchester model 70 in pre 64. Good condition, all original and with the load I worked up shoots 20 bullets in the size of a quarter all day long. It's in good shape not great has normal wear but not anything abnormal. It's in 30-06. Anyway a man I know is a gun collector, he already has 3-4 of these and says he'll give 750 for it. Like I said I haven't sold no gun in about 30 years and this is one of my best. For one its a great shooter and my grandpaw gave it to me before he passed on but idk. Anyway if I did decide to sell it would that be a fair price or is it worth more generally speaking. ?just wandering.

Personally I would not sell it unless I absolutely had to considering the grandfather connection(and I understand that absolutely may be the case here) But as described and considering the situation I would jump on the $750.00 offer for a loved one or myself in need of medical care. Good luck and Godspeed.

Common post WW-2 rifles made prior to 1964 simply don't have any real collector value. Some rifles in special configurations or odd calibers bring a premium. As do pre-war rifles. Some people thing any pre 64 is worth a fortune, and from 1964 up to about 1994 when Winchester brought back CRF rifles they did bring a premium. There is no real reason to pay premium prices for them, but some people still do. That alone does drive up prices somewhat. $750 is probably a very fair price for the rifle in question.

I have no problem selling most guns. But would have a hard time selling a Winchester my grandpa gave me. Just saying. You'll never get rich on it, but that is one I'd try real hard to keep.

A pre-64 Model 70 in 30'06 has been on my wish list for a while now. Saving my quarters nickels and dimes for one. Gonna take me a while though. Wife keeps raiding my change jar for the vending machines at her work. :(

Ouch. I would hate to have medical reasons that would force me to think of selling a rifle my grandpa gave me. Especially a pre 64.

Good luck with your decision.

That's why I keep mine locked up and I have the only key. ;)

Not sure if I am too late to help or not; I just sold (3 days ago) a 1953 M70 30.06 Standard for $850. It had been cut properly to add a pad. Very few rounds, very, very nice shape. Just a point of reference.

Thanks Ill keep that in mind. Haven't done anything yet. It is one of my favorites and besides I just like older guns anyhow. Idk. 750 wouldn't even really put a dent in it anyway.

I may be reading between the lines here, but if you must sell, the only thing I can guarantee you is that you will regret it some day. I've heard that story many times about the regret of the gun that got away, for whatever reason.

Good Luck on a tough decision.

...bug :o

Wouldn't it be simpler to just hide the change jar?;)

have you ever tried to hide any thing from a women, let alone a wife? they are better than a badger at digging things up. eastbank.

I have a bazillion cheap guns, but only two pre 64 Winchester M70s, becuase they cost too much.

1956 30-06, had been rebarreled and a Redfield TV scope added $585 from an ad in the newspaper 2005.
I have since put a different stock on it, a 270 barrel, and a Leupold scope.

BuckRub Have considered that many a family member or close friend might give you a loan on the Win. Until you can pay them back? I wish you well.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. Yep I think it wouldn't even put a dent in it. Think I'll keep it. It is by far my favorite. Have to just tell them I'll try to give them what I can but know its nothing. This ole gun needs to help out with the piggy's and deer. :)
