price for new Ruger GP100

What would be a good price for a brand new Ruger gp100?
I have pretty much decided on this for my first handgun (I have a few other guns, just no handgun), as I have heard that it is, quite simply, a great and rugged gun. I saw a 3 inch barrel, blue finish ruger at a local gun shop for $400 and I want to know if I could do better?

Also, does it matter whether I get a silver stainless steel or a blue finish revolver? I personally love the look of a silver revolver and would choose this if the differences were negligable. It would be for home defense and target shooting, and Wisconsin doesn't allow CCW, so it doesn't need to be compact.

Thanks for any help.

Ruger GP-100

Around my part of the woods you can expect to pay about $370.00 for a NEW GP-100 in Stainless Steal, 4 or 6 "barrel.
Here is a picture of mine.

I think $400 is on the upper side of the envelope, but in the range, allowing for regional differences. See if the dealer will come off the price by about $20 or throw in a box or two of ammo, defensive or plinking rounds. It don't cost anything to ask!

I just picked up a new 3 inch blued GP-100 here in western NY State today and the price runs $379- $409 depending on the store, so $400 would be in the ballpark for list price. I have a 6 inch in SS that is a great gun, and hope to get the 3 inch to the range this week

Hereabouts you would likely give around $375 for a new stainless one. If you prefer the looks of a stainless revo, I can't see any benefit in getting a blued one (in other words, the only reason I can see to get a blued one is if you like the looks of it).

Great choice of weapon for your purposes, and great handle. Welcome to TFL!

Damn, around here it is $420 to $499 for stainless 4" and 6" models. I just bought one at a store's "Ruger Day" sale for $398 and was pretty happy about it.

You know it is sad when the prices are higher than they are in Maryland.

thanks

I wanted to say thanks for the responses.

The store I was looking in is called Gander Mountain. They seem to charge way too much for everything...for example they charge about $625 for a Glock 21 w/fixed sights. But $400 for a GP100 is the best price I've seen, the next best being $420 at another place. Oh yeah, they don't negotiate (they're a big chain of stores).
