Price chk on S&W 657

It's hard to compare conditions without seeing them, but I just looked at one yesterday in 90% condition and they wanted $419. for it.

Prices on all of the N frame .41 Smiths have gotten crazy. The new style full lug 657's seem the least affected by it. The older style without the full lug barrel isn't seen much and usually costs big bucks. I've been seeing regular old Model 57's going for over $500. Model 58's for well over $600. I'm starting to wonder if .41 Magnum might be having a comeback!

I agree, anything less than $700.00 seems to be rare. I missed one recently for $600.00. If I found one about $350.00, I would buy it. The 3.5" will bring a large premium.

Finish wear on a SS revolver? Is it a bead blasted model and it has smooth spots?
Is the bore really worn or just dirty? It would take a lot of shooting to wear the bore out. If the bore is worn then that price isn't as good as it looks.

That would be a fair price here. I bought one last year for $300.00 with some fairly minor flaws to finish. Someone has painted the sights white and I've not been able to get it off so far.
I have four .41's and really do like the caliber but agree interest seems to be up on them these days and expect the prices to follow. At least in my area they still get passed over. My 657 sat in the dealers case for a long time before I bought it while .357's and .44's came and went.
I bought a Bisley in .41 a few months ago from him. He didn't even have it in his case but brought it out from out back when I came in. I was in the next week and he told me he had lots of calls on it after he sold it from his online auction.

thanks for the feedback.

Majic, the emblem by the hand grips you could see was worn down slightly, where your thumb may rub. the rifling just didn't seem as sharp as some of the other bores i've seen.
anyway, kindof a moot point as it didn't make it through commitee, if you know what i mean :( maybe in a few months it will still be available, or something better may come along.

S & W is currently making AT LEAST TWO flavors of the 41M, both stainless. One is the 657 and I'm not sure of the model number of the other but it is designed for hunting with a long ribbed barrel with notches for mounting scope rings. I am the proud owner of a brand new 657 with a 7 1/2 inch (you read it right) barrel. I love it, and it shoots like a dream. The barrel has a full underlug much like the Colt Python and is heavy. It limits barrel jump and helps you stay on the target much better if you should need a follow-up shot. I paid about $625 for it brand new and smiled the whole time.

By the way...the cylinder on my new 657 is unfluted.

NIB M-57 Adopted

I just "adopted" a brand new M-57 (no dash) that was sitting at my dealer's. This gun is NIB, not even a cylinder ring (a blush of one barely visible) and it appeared to be unfired since leaving the factory.

NIB means it was new, with all papers, sealed plastic cleaning kit bag, with a presentation case! It's even better as it has the original, unmarked, S&W blue box and the shipping box for both the gun and the case. Price on this deal (in CA no less!) was just $650. The gun alone should have been $500.

Here's some eye candy (taken at the dealer's).

New in unmarked S&W box (no markings or logos)

Note the Target Hammer, Target Trigger, Red Ramp, White Outline rear sights. Classic S&W!
(Look Ma! No ring-around-the-cylinder either!)

Recessed chambers, but an unpinned barrel. Made in 1981 so I'd say it was a "transition model".

And it even comes with some nice wood too!
