Price check - Winchester Safari Express

I've been offered a LNIB (unverified so far) Winchester Safari Express in .416 Rem Mag, 3 boxes of Barnes 400gr. Solids, and 9 boxes of Swift A-frame 350gr. Soft Points for $850. I'm trying to rationalize this purchase for an Africa trip mid-next-year sometime. Thoughts and opinions?

When I check out the rifle in person, what should I look for other than appearance and bore quality?

Provided you are talking about loaded ammunition, that itself is worth conservatively say $200 (actually more but lets call it that). You could then say the rifle is $650 and if it is indeed LNIB, I'd say that's a pretty good deal.

After appearance and bore quality, not much of importance is left. Check the crown of the muzzle; if it's dinged, it's a talking point on price, since it's fairly cheap to have fixed.
