Price check: used Bushmaster

Hey everyone,
Saw a Bushmaster shorty today at the gun store and wanted to get a price check for it. I looked at Bushmaster's online catalog and here are the specs:

XM15 E2s Shorty A3 16" Barrel Carbine
It has an AK style post ban muzzle brake

Rifle looks good, barrel looks good

Includes a Weaver fixed scope, in good shape
Price: $649.
Is this a good deal?

That's a good deal. Is the removable carry handle included? The handle cost $90.00. This particular rifle (which I owned the exact same) retails for about $850.00 in the A3 configuration. The scope adds more. I sold mine with 8 mags, some ammo, cheap red-dot sight and a case for $800.00. I gave my buddy (a cop) some printed flyers to take to the station and my rifle sold within an hour.

I forgot to mention, the muzzle brake should be pressed on and not welded.

I would stay away from it. I had A1 with an 11.5" with a 5.5" AK brake and I hated it. Accuracy sucked and it was louder than hell! Mine was a Bushy Y2K Limited Edition. I traded out my upper and kept the lower. The price is good if you don't value your hearing. Buy it and trade out/sell the upper.

My A2 16" upper is 14 1/2" with the 1 1/2" post ban AK brake on to make it 16".I would prefer a fake A2 flash hider but Bushmaster didn't offer these.

I have the exact rifle that you desribe, but mine is the H Bar and I have the removeable handle. The barrel on mine is 16 inches not including the comp. If the brake is properly installed on a post ban it will slip on over the barrel and be held in place with a number 2 taper pin. The pin then may be welded in place. If someone actually welded all around the brake, they probably screwed the barrel up pretty good. If the rifle is done right then the price you mention is pretty good.

I get MOA accuracy without the comp and 1 1/4 MOA with the comp using just about any milspec ammo like Winchester White box. I added a JP trigger to mine. I use the rifle in 3-gun and it does fine even though I would at times prefer the 20 inch version.

Bushmasters are good rifles and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. In the world of AR's the big three are A,B,C. Armalite, Bushmaster, and Colt.

It looked like the muzzle brake was the 1 1/2" length. As far as it being welded vs. pinned, it actually looked threaded, if that's possible. There was a small ring of steel between the barrel and the brake itself. And yes, it did have the removable carry handle.

Buy it.You surely won't be disappointed. If you don't like it, you'll have no problem selling it for what you paid.

Maybe that brake should be pressed on, but it's not

Mine was pressed on and had no welds or pins. I think if you buy the rifle with the brake from the factory it gets pressed on (maybe silver soldered?). If you just buy a brake later to add to your gun it comes with a pin and they recommend professional installation.

The excess material you see is a peel washer and is used for alignment when pressing the brake on.

Buy it before it gets away!

Depending on where you live it may be a "OMG!! GET THE CREDIT CARD NOW MAMA!!" to "Just an average deal, maybe I can do better".

Lately I've seen em on AR15.com extremely cheap. You can bet the guy who traded it in only got about $500 on the trade in. You can sometimes find em for about $700 to $750 if you look around.

I would say if you want it, buy it. It's a pretty good deal but I think you should get the price down to an even $600 before you buy. Contrary to what many dealers would have you to believe, the market is rapidly turning into a buyers market instead of a sellers.

Good Shooting
