Price Check, Stevens 311?

I owned a Stevens 311 years ago. I got it cheap and like a dummy i traded it. Now as I creep into middle age I'm trying to recover the ones I miss. The problem is I remember the Stevens as just being a meat and potatos gun, no frills just dependable. Well I found three at a local shop 12, 16, 20. They are all in good shape with prices in the mid 300's. The guy was saying the Cowboy action and SASS folks were driving the prices on these guns up, any thoughts?

Mid 2s is more like what it should be. The 311's a nice using shotgun. And while the CASS folks I know are a decent bunch, they are driving up the prices on a lot of stuff.

My advice, keep on looking and good luck...

Lows threes in South Carolina.. Just sat at a table for a friend at the gunshow this weekend. Prices are creeping towards 4 bills, but nobody was buying at that price. They are moving here at 300 and a bit.

There was a really nice example for sale on here for $300 a while back. I would go up to 300 for one in nice shape. I too like them.

Oh great! Now the 311 will be "Parkerized" and start selling for far more than they are worth:rolleyes:

Problem is not that the CAS shooters drive up prices, but what they do to the guns:mad:

I've got an old 311 and it is hammerless.
The Cowboy Action Shoots require a Hammer as I understand their rules, so why would they drive up the prices?

No SASS does not require an outside hammer on doubles, and where can I get my 311's (one 30 inch ,one 20 inch) parkerized? Just kidding, I dont think these Savage guns would take much clay target work before they would fall apart. They were made to shoot a few birds each year. Seriously my 311R is my "leave out gun" that rests behind the piano and the 311 30" is in my truck with 141 .35 Remington and Nylon 66. Nothing intimidates up close like a double and inside hammers are faster.:)

I've got 8 of the 311's, and paid around 250 for each of them, but I might go 350 for the 16. My favorite which I paid nothing for, gift from my grandfather many moons ago, I've been shooting on average 4 boxes of shells a month thru for the past 18 years. Still tight as can be and the clays shake in fear when they hear it coming. Wish I could find a .410 for about 350.
