Price Check - Rem 870 Express

I saw a "like new" Remington 870 Express 12ga in a pawn shop tonight for $189. Literally looked to me like it had never been fired. Retail on these looks to be around $329. I have been thinking about getting a good "all purpose" 12 guage.

Is this a good buy???

What if I offer the guy $150????

Thanks!

HL.

Like new? Yes, that seems to be a good buy to me.

Around these parts, the cheapest they go is about $200. Normal price is around $220-$240. IIRC, I paid right at $200 (tax included) for a new Express because of a 15% off sale price.

Can't beat it for an all-purpose 12 gauge. If you offer $150 and the guy comes off that $189 price at all, I'd snatch it up. Actually, $189 with no extra tax would be a good deal for an Express in new condition.

Local discount store (not Wallyworld) has them for $239 (wood stock)
I'd offer $150 and if he doesn't take it the $189 ain't bad.

Walmart and Dicks stocks them for between $229-249 all day long. I cant imagine anyone hurting a 870, so snag the used one up if you can get it for under $175.

i see you're in houston, in dfw they go for $220-240. no reason to pay that though, oshmans and academy have them on sale right now for $199. with tax about $216.

i found mine last weekend at the gun show for $165 private sale.

offer him $150, with tax that's the highest i'd go. pass if he doesn't want to deal. go to some gun shows. after the dove opener(sept 1st) some folks have upgraded or need to sell off their shotguns they just bought.

I offered $150 and then went to $160 but he wouldn't budge. He was firm on price. Guess he figures he can find a patsy out there (and I guess he is probably right....) If Academy and Oshman's are selling for $199, I would rather pay the extra $10 for new. Thanks for the tip!

HL.

FWIW ... $189 isn't bad ... and not really a "patsy" sort of price. (By the same token, if you can get a NIB one for $199, go for it!)
