Price-check on Walther P99, aisle 5 please...

So I was a bad boy see.... I stopped by a local gunshop on the way to lunch today. They had a couple of Walther P99's, one black, one green and black.
I have never held one before today, but let me tell you... it was a beautiful, almost religious experience! I must, no MUST have one. And a choice of colors no less!
The black one was priced at $619, the green at $659. I would want a .40, so any idea what this ole Georgia boy might be able to slip by paying for one, NIB??

Thanks for stopping by!

Well, around $600 seems to be the going rate here in the South (I'm in North Carolina), so if you can clip that $19 you'll be right on average.

I paid $575 for mine last year, so with tax that came out to $603.

Once you get used to the trigger, you'll never go back to anything else. It's got everything you want in a CCW piece - rust resistance, slim profile, multiple safety features, accuracy and reliability.

Worst 9mm I've EVER had the dis-pleasure to shoot. Snappy with an awful cheap plastic grip, too short trigger reset and it jammed on me too.

Save your money or buy a USPc9 (same price), P239 (save $100) or 2 CZ75BD's for the same money plus maybe $100. JMHO.

Just a warning. My P99QA in .40Auto suffered a cracked frame after 300rds. I was not happy. But the USPc 40Auto is brightening my outlook.

I paid $610 for mine, Black w/ Stainless slide, in .40, NIB. I think it's a great gun! I love the shape of the grip, being able to cock it & go SA even though its a striker-fired design, the loaded chamber & cocked indicators... lots of nice features. After changing the front site (4 are included)mine hits right on POA at 15 yards. And it has fed & fired everything I've put in it. The post above from 'One' is the first I've ever heard concerning breakage on the P99, maybe his was defective from the start, that happens to all brands. If it feels good in your hand, I think you'll enjoy shooting it. And as I said, mine is very reliable so far. :)
Good Luck! Oak

P.S. - to 'One' - where did yours break? I'd like to keep an eye on mine. Were you firing hot loads? Finally, how did you like the gun before it broke? Just curious... Thanks

I love my P99 (black 9mm). If I remember right, I paid 550 for it. Great gun. Possibly the one I'd keep if I had to choose only one. I've got 5 hi-caps (standard-caps) for it, along with a leather Desantis holster and an Uncle Mike's IWB.

While I had a few jams with S&B ammo, I'm pretty sure it was the ammo because it jammed my buddy's G17 as well. And it's recommended by Q-Branch!

I fired a few 155gr Pro-loads, about 50rds to qualify, but all the rest was 165gr PMC. The crack originated inside the accessory rail. It was small, and two smith's said that it was probably no big deal, but I know that it wasn't there when I bought it. I enjoyed the gun, and considered carrying it on a limited basis, supplementing my 17. But, I lost all faith in it, and sought satisfaction in a USP compact. The QA is the best of the triggers I have felt in P99 series. I think that the polymer of the Walther has the feel, I didn't say that it is, of being more brittle than that of the Glock or H&K. I may revisit the weapon at a later time.

Dr. David Avery has the black at $539 and green at $559, both in .40 S&W. This is his advertised price, they would be somewhat lower at a gun show. Last Sept at Dallas Market Hall they were under $500. Also try Bachman in Dallas to see if they will beat Doc's price. Seems like I remember seeing them at $499 sometime back. Both of these guys will be at the Houston Astrohall show the weekend before Thanksgiving and Dallas Market Hall the weekend after Thanksgiving. Do the 'Texas Gun Show Tour' for your Thanksgiving vacation, I am.

Hi all. Would someone please explain the quick action trigger to me. Thanks.

Regards,
Frank

The QA is a DAO type trigger similar to the Glock, w/ the exception that it does not require the first bit of motion to bring the striker in to the cocked position. When the slide is racked the striker is in the tensioned position, and the trigger serves only to release the striker, not cock it.

Jeff OTMG covered the pricing in Texas. I would add, however, that Walther's list price for the black, Military (green), and QPQ (silver) is the same, so I don't see why there should be a difference in price, save a dealer trying to make a few extra dollars.

Thanks for all the input...

I must have one... SOON!

I think the Black .40 is going to be the way to go. I'd love to know how to contact this "Doc" dude in Texas... sounds like his prices could put me in one even sooner!

Just a side note...I heard from an authorized Streamlight M3 dealer that a *&*99 light is a reality, and the Walther P99 is right around the corner.

Onslaught, I have two, a 9mm and a .40, and the price range should be $575 to $600 if you're in the Atlanta area. I'd recommend you shop around first, attend a gunshow or two, and there's at least two in our state every weekend. If you are in the Atlanta area, the Eastman gunshow will be at the Cobb Convention Center in Marietta this weekend.....Dan in GA

Did you check where they were manufactured by any chance? I was under the impression the green ones were actually made in Germany and were a little better quality... just something to look into and double check for sure. Look at http://www.fsguns.com to see what I'm talking about. Maybe its the SW99 thats made in the US and I was mixing them up with the Walther P-99 (even though they're kinda the same thing)

I paid 539.00 for mine. The drab was about 70.00 more. I got mine at WWW.FSGUNS.COM

I got this after my glocks, HKs and Sigs
