Found a Used Smith and wesson Model 66? I think it was a 66. anyway it is a .357, 6 rounds, thin barrel, etc. It is blued and has a Leapuld(SP) 2x scope on it. Asking price was 479, but the manager said he would go 389.00!!!!!! Should I get this gun? I figure the scope is worth a good portion of the price. THe gun is in good condition but not great. I would say 85-90%

LOL Galt that is pretty much my feelings as well. But this is an older gun. In fact it was made before the company sold out to the brits even. So I am actually considering it.

Sounds about right, if you like scoped revolvers. I don't. I have a single-shot Contender with 3 scoped barrels, so I have some experience with scoped handguns. I think the Leupold is about as good as it gets in handgun scopes. The M8 2x plus mount would be about $130-$160. If it is in fact a model 19 (K-frame), then the price of the revo is about right. It would be a good deal if this is an M28 (N-frame) and great if this was an M27 (N-frame) There's a slim possibility this is a an M13 (K-frame, fixed sites) in which case this deal is no deal at all.

Tell us a little more about it Kevin. Does it have adjustable sights? Look inside the frame under the crane and see what the letter is beginning the serial number. If it is an "N" then it is in fact either a model 28 (dull finish) or model 27 (glosss finish) or model 520 (fixed sights, "N" frame-rare). If the letter is "K" than it is either model 19 (adjustable sights) or model 13 (fixed sights).
The only one's in the group that are worth 370 bucks would be the model 27 and model 520. Anything else and it is little on the high side. If it is a model 13 it is way on the high side.

I'd be a little concerned as to why the manager lowered the price that much. Have it checked out by a gunsmith before buying...

As far as them lowering the price. It has been sitting there over 8 moths without moving and I am good friends with the Owners son (THe manager :)) and he often gives me 25-50 off on guns if he can. Mix that with how long it has been there and how much I spend at that shop. THey are REALLY good to me.

A used Leupold 2x is $88 in like new condition, I have bought two of them at gun shows. A 66 is a stainless steel gun. A 19 would be the blued version and used is around $200, but neither the adj site 19 nor the fixed sight 13, both K-frames, have thin barrels. The 586 and 581 are blue L-frames and neither of them have thin barrels, in fact both are underlugged. That leaves the 27 and 28 series. Both blue N-Frames. As Gunslinger suggested check the serial number and look inside the yoke on the frame for a model number. If the gun has a pinned barrel and recessed chambers it is more desirable. I just bought an 8 3/8" model 27-2 in the two piece blue box with papers in Tulsa. It has been fired, but not noticably and cost $350. If it is a mod 28 the gun is worth about $250 if it has the 6" barrel plus the scope and I still don't come up with $389. Examine this pistol very closely on the top strap by the forcing cone. I looked at one in north Texas last year that had flame cutting all the way across the top strap and was cutting through the edges. Also check the timing, if it has been shot extensively with heavy loads you will usually find at least a couple of chambers off even on an N-frame.
