I found today k98k made in 1943 with original marks(nazi mark that is, I think that's proof mark), imported by CAI in local gunshop, but price was 500$!!!
condition looks ok to me,(maybe good?)
Is this price going price for mauser?
thanks

It might be the going price for a real 98k with Waffen stamps intact, but there are several 98 Mauser variants on the market now (Yugo M48's VZ24's etc.) that run from $80-150, and are substantially identical shooters (though not worth nearly so much as a "real" 98k). What are you looking for, a serious collectors piece or a shooter/wall hanger?

I was looking for shooter, I have already Yugo M48, i love it,
I guess 1943 mauser would be a good shooter, since at 1943 germany was still winning,(no material shortage, quality production, etc), but for 500 bucks, holy cow, maybe it's just hiper inflation with anything with nazi markings,
:(

1943 would have been the turning point for quality in a 98K wouldn't it? I've read that about 1943, the quality started declining.

Disclaimer: I might be wrong?

Back in the 1950s when folks were still doing a lot of sporterizing on Mauser 98s, it was generally accepted that 1943 was the last year of reliability.

(My father tells of guys who would gather up a few hundred 98s and take a torch to the barrel and a saw to the stock; then they went into boxes for shipping back to the States. Hey, they were worth around $20 apiece!)

Original 98 or no, $500 seems around $200 too high, even in today's world...
