Price check for two S&W's

I've already checked Supica and Nahas, but would like some additional "actual experience" pricing if possible.

Revolver number 1: Model 34-1, S/N M6XXX (1969/70?), blue, four inch, square butt, less than 50 shots fired (hard to tell it's ever been shot), like new condition. Pawn shop asking $239 plus tax (about $260 total). Is that about right for a kit gun?

Revolver number 2: .44 HE first model, S/N 2XX (1907/8?), nickel, six-and-a-half inch, could be unfired but can't tell for sure (shop is not claiming that it's unfired), perfect finish and perfect pearl grips. Pawn shop asking $1800 plus tax. Good short term investment or not?

Thanks for any input.

Greeting's Bods,

Good price on S&W model 34-1 "Kit Gun". The 2" barrel
model 34-1 in LNIB would demand a slight premium. Extra
for nickel, also.

I question the price on the 1st model .44 caliber HE, cuz it
doesn't seem original; with the installation of "pearl grip's".
If true to form, the price seems on the high side too me.

Thanks for the quick responses.

1. Anyone have thoughts on a fair and reasonable price for the .44 with pearl grips?

2. What kind of value would it lose due to pearl grips?

3. Did S&W ever ship a revolver with pearl grips from the factory? Could a buyer, for instance, order from S&W and request different grips?

I don't want to make this gun something it isn't, but on the other hand I thought (for some reason) that S&W did supply revolvers now and then with pearl grips. If a buyer ordered a new gun from S&W and requested pearl grips, is the gun then considered to be not original? The grips on this .44 do have the S&W logo and are a perfect fit. Thanks again for all help.

SN of the HE puts it at 1908. Pearl grips could have been a special order. The only way to know is to get a letter. They only cost @ $30. If it is in the condition you describe and has the box and original accessories (manual, etc) and the grips are factory, jump on it. If the grips aren't factory and it doesn't have the box, etc. IMHO it's a 1200 dollar piece.

Post here:http://www.smith-wessonforum.com/cgi-bin/sandwcgi/Ultimate.cgi?action=intro in the 1857-1945 area.

In the book, Standard Catalog Of Smith & Wesson
2nd edition by Supica & Nahas, it notes that an early model
"Triple Lock" was advertised as 5" nickel with "steer pearl"
grip's, rated at 97-98% for the sum of $2,795.00:eek: :D So,
I guess "pearly's" were available with the S&W logo back in
the early day's? :D

34 looks good.

I would research very very carefully on the HE 44.
And is it 44 S&W Special, .44 Russian or .44-40 WCF ?
