What seems to be the going price for a smith to cut and crown a revolver barrel and reinstall a front sight?
I am thinking of picking up an old HS revolver and having the six inch barrel cut to two or three inches. Cheap snubby shooting practice might ensue.
Around here it is a bit pricey. I was quoted $250 for that work. Should be under $200. Cut $60, recrown $50, bevel $20, dovetail cut front sight $20, sight $25. This is my estimate and I could be way off.
Thought about doing that to a Ruger Super Redhawk in .454. Want something with a 5" barrel that I can use for personal defense from the big bad bear in Alaska. I know Taurus offered a 5" Raging bull but wanted the Ruger and the extra round. But, since Im not getting orders to Alaska anymore, guess I wont need a .454 for personal protection. So I will keep the 7" barrel and use it for hunting.
Last I heard it was running around $250. You'll have to do some calling around.
