Price check, aisle .44.......

What's the going/fair price for a new Model 629, 4" or 6" barrel?

I only started looking yesterday, found one for $699.00. Seems steep to me, especially in the Phoenix market.

Sorry, I've already done what research and soul-searching is necessary for manufacturers/models. So please, I do not need advice on Rugers, Colts, Tauruses, ad nauseum; I just want to talk price on Model 29s, thanks!

I'm guessing it's a S&W:

S&W Model 629 DA Revolver:

3" backpacker: $439
4/6": $385
8.38": $385
Classic 5-6.5": $395
Classic 8.38": $425
Classic DX 6.5": $565
Classic DX 8.38": $595
Magna Classic 7.5" ported barrel: $775

There ya go.

seb5,

I'm sorry, just go with with I have to go on.

Since there are folks that have more data then I (which didn't post where they got that data), then I apologize.

If you would like to offer any other data that isn't gleaned from their local gun shop, I would be very happy to consider their points and thus change, if need be, my answer to the post.

No worries. My reply came across more sarcastic than I meant it. All I was trying to point out was that the used gun guide would'nt reflect the cost in our respective locales. He was asking the going/fair price. Again , I did'nt intend to come across as a hard ass.

Price check...

I just bought a new S/W model 629 Classic 6 1/2" barrel this past January for $527 tax and all here in Mississippi. The gun shop (Guns and Ammo in Southaven, MS) had a special sale that started about the middle of December where the paid all taxes on any gun purchase. That figures up about $490 before tax because the tax rate is 7%. I at first thought that it was a used gun being passed off as new because I have access to a couple of dealer catalog that show that the true dealer cost is about $45 more than what i paid. After examining the gun and talking to the dealer, he told me that the gun was truly new, but the reason that the price was so low was that they had made a special purchase of 150 various pistols directly from Smith at special prices and this was one of the ones in that lot. He said that most of the pistols in that lot were about $100 less than what they normally sell for and that they were passing the savings on to the public. I still don't understand the deal of "purchasing directly from Smith" because as far as I know, they don't sell directly to gun dealers, but maybe there was some special arangement through one of the wholesalers.
