Clinton Calls for U.N. Army

Austin Ruse
Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, 12:34 p.m. EST

President Bill Clinton told world leaders gathered today in New York that the United Nations needs a rapid deployment force of well-trained and well-equipped soldiers capable of projecting "credible force" into trouble spots.

Clinton was the first head of state to speak at the largest gathering of world leaders in history, attending the U.N. Millennium Summit.

Clinton spoke almost exclusively on the "making and keeping of peace."

"There are assembled here more people with the power to create peace than have ever gathered together in one place in the history of the world. Can we seize this moment?"

He said that most wars now occur within borders and are caused principally by "ethnic and religious" differences.

He said national sovereignty and territorial integrity should take a back seat to keeping the peace.

"Whether it is diplomacy, sanctions, or collective force, we must find ways to protect people as well as borders. There are times when the international community must take a side – not merely stand between the sides."

Clinton’s call for a U.N. rapid deployment force – effectively a standing army at the disposal of the United Nations – will certainly fuel efforts by Democrats in Congress to deploy 6,000 American soldiers for permanent U.N. service.

His proposal will also give political conservatives increasing fear the U.N. will become an independent political force with its own military arm.

Clinton criticized the U.S. Congress for holding up payment of U.S. U.N. dues. "All nations, including my own, must meet our obligations to the U.N. Those who believe we can either do without the U.N., or impose our will upon it, have not learned from history and do not understand the future."

Clinton spoke to a packed U.N. General Assembly Hall with overflow jammed into conference rooms in the U.N. basement.

In the Hall were all the major leaders of the world, including French President Jacques Chirac, British Prime Minister Tony Blair, and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder. Cuban president Fidel Castro, Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, Israel’s Ehud Barak, Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin, and the Princes of Monaco, Morocco and Saudi Arabia were also present.

In his remarks, Vladimir Putin called for a U.N. conference to be convened in Moscow for the prevention of weapons in space; a proposal aimed directly at the proposed U.S. intercontinental missile shield.

All leaders are expected to address the conference, which will continue through Friday.

If the US gummint overtly accepts the UN's definition of peace ("Make nicey-nice or we'll shoot/burn/bomb you!"), it's time.

Peace isn't something you "make" or "keep" from outside the warring factions. Peace develops when the people who previously thought there was good enough reason to kill each other, decide that there isn't enough good reason to kill each other.
Keeping peace fails every time it is tried. Keeping the peace means separating the warring parties, and unless you plan to stay there perpetually, as soon as you leave, they go back to killing. Never doubt the memory of distant relatives killed or raped. The situation in the Balkans started more than 400 years ago. I don't think we'll solve it with a couple of years military presence. By the way, when were we supposed to get out of there? By Christmas? Of what year?
In Sierra Leone, the warring factions have taken to hacking off the arms of the other tribe's children. Wow! Can you imagine the hatred you'd feel if someone did that to your kid? I'd spend all of my days killing the relatives and friends and families of anyone who did that. If a "peacekeeper" tried to stop me, I'd kill them too with nary a tear shed. SUPRISE! We're sending troops over there to "Keep the peace."
In Columbia, the ruling regime has treated certain segments of the population like human garbage. We're also sending troops and equipment to them.
If you remember how Viet Nam got going, these situations should ring a bell. We first sent "advisors" like we're doing in Columbia. When a few of them got killed, we became committed. Eventually, we got some unGodly number of men killed (something like 58,000), and as soon as we pulled out, the Country fell anyway.
I'm all for sending someone else's kids to die instead of it always being American kids dying. The problem is that if Billy get's his way, the UN Army will be comprised of U.S. Troops. Ain't that a helluva note?
The one characteristic of U.S. Foriegn policy under Clinton is that it is a Policy of amatures. Everything they do is flawed from the git-go. They never fail to ignore valuable advice from those who we pay good money to give advice ie: joint Chiefs of Staff ect. Remember Somalia? Mogadishu? 18 men who were the sons, husbands or fathers of somebody?

Re: Klinton: He said national sovereignty and territorial integrity should take a back seat to keeping the peace.[\b]

Our President is calling on us to give up our borders, our national independence, our very constitution, in the service of every haywire government that puts itself into power in some banana republic somewhere.

And it's not time? BTW, what color lenses let you see blue the best?

Is this guy an american? Does he want to allie with cuba and china and korea and all our enemies just so that he looks good in their eyes? He want's to ship 6000 american boys (and girls) to be used at the UN's disposal? fight wars in other countries? I don't understand. If it's not our business, don't get involved. Keep americans in america and to hell with the other countries. Who in the hell gave this draft dodging, pot smoking, hypocryte-communist, faggot executive order? I can't believe politics comes before freedoms. The president of the states should be the highest ranking military officer. This guy has had no training, except to be a lawyer, and Knows NOTHING of world affairs.

Here's an idea:

Let's deploy 6,000 DEMOCRATS for permanent UN service. Maybe it'll help them with their insatiable need to keep sticking their big nose where it doesn't belong. We'll kill 2 birds with one stone.

What better way to completely destroy the last remaining iota of U.S. Military morale than to put them under the command of some third-world commander for deployment to some God-foresaken craphole to "keep the peace."

kjm,
BTW, excellent analysis of 'peace'. Its more than the simple absence of conflict. If you've got to act as referee with armed troops, it may be something, but it ain't 'peace'.

Slick`s Willard should be the first on the front line, with the blue of the UN on his Willard. :)

The UN has to be stopped NOW!!!!!!!! Still

Nikita Khrushchev predicted confidently in a speech in Bucharest, Rumania on June 19, 1962 that: " The United States will eventually fly the Communist Red Flag...the American people will hoist it themselves."

C.R. Sam,

Good thing is a lot of people are seeing what kind of trouble the UN really is now.

There will be religious ramifications of the completion of this showing themselves shortly. We live in a strange time, until now it has not been possible for one faction to control the entire world, it is going to go down hill fast and some really weird stuff is going to happen. The end of this is a spiritual battle.

If I see _ANY_UN Blue helmet in my neighborhood, it gets targeted for a long range "strike" with a .308 :D

You want some real problems, UN creeps ?

Bring it on you cowards; I have the solution

RKBA Forever !!

Why are we acting surprised our hopefully, future ex-president made the proposal. US deployments around the world are precisely what he verbalized at the UN. When he leaves office he will have to develop a new power base and I think that is the UN.

This guy ain't goin' away. Look for the UN/globalization/etc. at achieve a fevered pitch. . . . all stoked and coordinated by major "media" and Wilhelm von Klinton I.

Does this sound anything like appeasement to anyone else. I'm hearing echoes of Chamberlain appeasing Nazi Germany in that sentence.

Hrrummpf! "Peace in our time..."

TheBluesMan,

Scary That is all I can say! The more I think about what he said the darker and darker it looks.

What a Surprise!!
Bill Clinton wants the UN (You know that group of APPOINTED bureaucrats which is controlled by people from other countries who can't even manage their own resources well enough to feed their own populations) now want their own army, staffed with US troops for use as cannon fodder in any and every back water hell hole they can find.

Just wait they also want their own Taxing authority and court (which will be a star chamber with no control from outside the court) to back it up too. The phrase "No controlling legal authority" doesn't even come close to describe the power of the UNs court.

Then we will have the IRS of the UN, which will be backed by its own “Kangaroo court”, and jack booted goon squad for tax enforcement. If you think we have it bad under Bill and his crowd wait until the third world countries start their income redistribution scheme. They wont be happy until the whole world is a poverty stricken starving police state.

The UN will be able to lift the whole world to a one world government that would resemble that of a Banana Republic. OH what joy.

We should do what the Swiss did Depart that organization and ask then to set up shop in some place else, Say sunny Beirut.

I'd love nothing better than to have those pond scum removed from the USA and told to go packing. Not gonna happen though, not in our life times anyway. However I cant wait for the blue helmets to start showing their faces. Maybe some people will wake up and realized the $hit storm when the find out the menu of the day includes roasted little boy, or the entertainment for the evening will be thir daughter's rape and torture. Time to go to the range and vent a little.

This is so eerily playing out like Tim LaHaye's "Left Behind" series it's scary.

Anyone who wants to know, from a biblical perspective, a scenario on how the end times could play out, should read these books.

All I can say is, if Clinton mentions the term "Global Community", I'm digging myself a hole to hide in.
