Preventing rust during long term storage

I have some extra magazines (M14 and 92FS) and I need some advice about how to store them. I cleaned them all and sprayed them with Remington oil about 3 months ago. Upon inspection today, the M14 magazines were mostly dry. Should I just leave them dry or should I coat them in something? I have some NLGI No. 2 Automotive wheel bearing grease. whould that do?

A product that I have used with fantastic results is LPS-3 ( not to be confused with LPS1 or 2) The stuff goes on rather thin and smells sticky sweet ( but does NOT draw ants) overnight it sets up quite a bit and a second coat may be applied. Although the stuff thickens, it never does become hard to remove like cosmoline. Also, it may be sprayed liberally ( excuse the term) into all working parts and down the bore. Once, for reasons extreme, I had a P-35 and a Hi-standard 22 sprayed, triple ziploced, and buried in damp soil for about 5 years! When retreived, there was NO rust, and I put 2 patches down each bore and they functioned perfectly! As far as I am concerned, there is NOTHING better!
