S&W just refinished the gun blue on my Model 586, and I want to store it in a new leather Bianchi 111 Cyclone holster. Any preparations recommended to this holster so that any residual tanning chemicals, dyes, etc. do not affect the gun blue finish?

I emailed Bianchi customer service a week ago and they are not responding.

M3bullet--I'm no tanning expert by any means but can relate a personal story that might help. There was a period toward the end of my IPSC competition days that I came home from a match pretty much knowing that due to starting a demanding new job my competitive days would be over for awhile. I had,to kill time waiting for the results to be posted, cleaned, oiled and stored my blue Commander in a Bianchi Askins Avenger. It made the trip home that way in a range bag,and sad to stay, that's where it was four years later when life settled down. Another Commander replaced it as a carry, and I always meant to get it out and store it properly, but did'nt. When my "priorities" got back in order I dug it out and was amazed when I really thought about it that there was no rust on the pistol. It HAD been oiled well...All of that said, with happy ending,I would not STORE a pistol in a holster as it seems a good place to aquire the tendency to rust. Sorry to hear that Bianchi has not answered...they used to be pretty good about that. Regards.

I'd avoid storing any pistol in a leather holster. If you are locking it in a safe, putting it under a bed, or any similar long term storage get a case.

Definitely a no-no. Leather attracts moisture. I've had well tanned slings turn the brass adjustment screws green with corrosion, bullets that corroded in western holsters, and guns that have rusted in them (thankfully, only a few days for the guns, no damage evident after gentle care with 0000 steel wool).

I made a very nice custom leather holster for my Security Six when it was brand new. It is fully lined with some kind of acrylic fake animal fur. 15 years in there, no prob.

1911Heaven: Do you realize how lucky you were? Maybe it's something about Bianchi.
