Preference?: Kahr K9 vs. Glock 36

They're somewhat different animals, but does anyone have a preference of one over the other (Kahr K9 and Glock 36) as a do it all (home defense, range, ect.) performer?

I have heard a rumor about Kahr, that they are partially owned by the Moonies...

Anybody know if there is any truth to this?

I have never fired a Kahr, but I can attest to the fact that the G36 is a good weapon, suitable for the multiple roles you indicate. The G30 may be too fat if you want to conceal it easily, but you should look hard at it too. 10 rnds of 45 acp in a fairly small package, yet very very accurate; it is nearly as accurate as my custom 1911 that cost 3 times as much...

I've heard the same about Kahr, I believe it rings true.
However, the K9 is a perfectly constructed wonderful design and the Moonies pay taxes... so I couldn't care less.

I've only fired a G36 though never owned one, so my vote may be a tad bias. But all opinions are subjective, right? :p
I've owned my K9 for about 4 or 5 years and couldn't have asked for a better carry/do-all defensive handgun.

Though the K9 tends to be heavier, it may lend to it's handling qualities and its superior ergonomics.

You know where my vote goes. ;)

The head of the moonies, Reverand Moon's son, I believe his name is Kevin Moon, started the Kahr Company....right out of college. He designed a gun around what he wanted in a CCW and no one else was offering. He built designed and built it from the ground up.

That fact that he is the "head guys" son really doesnt mean the profits or anypart of Kahr is directly connected to he "Moonies".....

The fact that he is Reverand Moons son, has no bearing on whether or not I buy one of there guns.....

Most guns made in UT....LAR, NA ARMS, etc etc....Will have some ties to the LDS church....whether just employees that work there or Company Controllers...owners, etc etc.....this has no relation to whether you should or should not buy one of these guns either. Just MHO.........

If its a good gun....its a good gun.

Shoot well

Justin Moon is the designer of the Kahrs.

I prefer the K9 personally. I like the trigger much better and prefer metal in my hands.

Bill of Rights

From an interview on the Kahr website:

<clip>
Moon: I am a member of the Unification Church, but I do not hold any formal positions in the church. I proudly participate and support my church and my community. This is, after all, a free country. I cherish my First Amendment rights as well as my Second Amendment rights.
<end clip>

My .02: Seems logical. Freedoms are freedoms.

Cheers.

I have both a 26 & a 27 as well as 2 Kahr K9s. I carry a K9 due to better feel in my hand as well as better concealability.

Justin Moon is behind Kahr (a name he picked). Who cares what his religious beliefs are. JMB was a what now???

I am a recent convert to the Kahr, the P9. I prefer the slimness of the weapon for carry (as back up).

Can you rent either and try before you buy?

Fact: "Loony" Adolph Hitler conceived Volkswagen.

Fact: "Moony" Kook Jin (Justin) Moon conceived Kahr Arms.

Fact: Tens of thousands of Americans patronize one or the other company.

Is it un-American to recognize value where value exists?

Still has me guessin' whether or not I should buy that GTI hatchback and K40 elite that I've had my eye on for some time. :D

Hmm, if you were from the Northeast you could shoot your Kah from ya cah! And still kill less people than Ted *burp* Kennedy's cah.

My vote goes to the Kahr, I bought mine because it offered concealability and Glock-like function in a Steel! package. Very nice little guns, I think I need another.

I have heard a rumor about Kahr, that they are partially owned by the Moonies...

WHAT AM I TO DO? I own a Kahr - I'm supporting the Moonies!

I own a CZ - I'm supporting the Commies!

I own a Ruger - I'm supporting the Clintonistas.

I love 1911s - JMB was a Mormon!

I may buy a Makarov - see above!

I own a Toyota and a Dodge - my Dad fought in WWII, but I'm still supporting those conniving yellow so-and-sos who bombed Pearl Harbor as well as the Nazis.

Are Case knives and Porter-Cable routers still OK. And, oops, I have a Bosch drill...

I've heard that moonies claim, but it didn't stop me from buying a K-40 - which I would own again in a second. Great gun, superb in every measure.

Getting back to the subject at hand for just a second. I own, shoot and carry the Glock 36. I have shot the Kahr MK9. It is a well built pistol. I do not own one because the slide abraided the thumb knuckle of my shooting hand. My G36 rests under my pillow at night, so I guess it serves as home defense gun as well. At the range last weekend, I was shooting 2.5 in groups, so I guess it is a decent range gun also. :D

How do the two compare in terms of weight?

Is the G36 a reasonable size and weight for front-pocket carry (in a pocket holster)?

The Glock 36 is not a pocket pistol. It is a very compact .45 that has roughly the same dimensions as a Colt Officer's model. If you are looking for a pocket pistol, consider the S&W 642/342 revolvers with an Uncle Mike's pocket holster. The 36 does carry well in a IWB holster.
