Pre-Ban Mags in post-Ban guns

According to a dealer I was talking to earlier today, If you carry a post ban weapon with pre-ban high cap mags in it, you could be in vialation of the Brady Bill and charged with a felony. This came as a shock because I just bought a 15 round clip for my Beretta 92fs! Can anyone verify this to be true? I guess I will have to buy a few more ten rounders.

Ask him to cite the law (specifically) that troubles him on this score. To my knowledge, this is a lot of bunk. [Consider buying Gun Laws of America, so you know the right answers - http://www.gunlaws.com ]

Forget reduced capacity mag's. Buy more full capacity mag's, while you can. KY Imports has 92FS 15-round mag's. See their ad in Shotgun News, or check out http://www.kyimports.com .

I can find no law against high caps in a handgun. There is no such thing as a "post ban" handgun, only "postban" magazines. Manufactures had until a certian date to stop making highcaps. All highcaps on the market HAVE TO LEGALLY BE PRE BANS! If you own a hi-cap, it should be a pre ban which is perfectly legal. I have never seen a serial numbered magazine. Therefore there is no way of proving the date of manufacture. SO, carry a 15 rounder, have a spare, and a 30 rounder in the glovebox! Oh, and tell anyone who dosen't like it to go to @#$%!!!!

Like most of the ***holes who work as gun shops, the guy is dead wrong.
%90 of the garbage you hear at a gun shop is bull****.
The only place I have ever seen for good info is right here on this forum.

Red Bull,
I work in a gun shop!!! No harm !!
Alot of the problems are the guys who hang around the counters telling of amazing shots and war stories all day. Also, and this is the big one!..... We get letters from the ATF
with new gun laws and books with the old ones. They are so damn confusing that no one can understand them!!

1) It is perfectly legal to put preban hicaps in postban guns
2) The Brady Law has nothing to do with bans, hicaps or what guns you can put them in.
3) Whoever told you this is uneducated and shouldn't be a dealer.

I agree with cjb, I'm LEO and half the time when I read a new gunlaw I can't figure out what is legal and what isn't....Most of the time I think I should take myself to jail. What I do know is that all these gun laws do not do anything to stop crime.

Cplane, there is no such thing as a preban/postban handgun.

Yes, you can use preban hi-caps in postban guns. If you couldn't, Para Ordnance wouldn't offer coupons with newly manufactured pistols for hicap mags!

Any mag manufactured after the 10rnd limit went into effect is required to be marked Military/Law Enforcement only if it has a capacity of over 10rnds. If your hicap doesn't say this it is totally legal for civilians to use in any gun that will take it that is legal to own/possess.

Thanks for all the info. They had me thinking the Brady's were going to come to my house and take all my guns if I got caught using a 15 rounder in my new 92fs!

As usual the Gun Shop Commandos are full of BS, don't pay any attention to anything that you hear coming from behind the counter of a gun shop. You are ok with your high cap mag in a post ban gun. The only mags that you can't have are the ones marked "For Govt/LE use only". These mags are for LEOs only. Oh and don't blame us we didn't make the goofy laws, that goofy excuse for a president that the libs voted for are the ones to blame. Them and the dolts that didn't vote in the last two elections...7th

I second 7th fleet, don't blame us. Most of us line LEOs believe in lawabiding private citizens owning and carrying firearms. We know the truth, that LEOs can't be everywhere and it is basically up to you to stop the BG that is coming at you. We show up when the incident is finished. Besides, we might need YOUR help one day.

Yes, all high capacity mags are illegal, please send them to me and I will dispose of them properly.

Just kidding.

Better VOTE and VOTE for the right people in the next election or pre-ban and post-ban will apply to all guns and there won't be any post-ban guns.

If we're lucky, they just take the guns. But one nut group advocates the summary execution of all gun owners and their families. To stop violence and killing, of course.
