pre ban HK91 $$$ crazy

Local gun store has a pre ban HK91 with folding stock for $2,495.

It is amazing what the anti-gun legislation has done to the prices of these rifles. Needless to say 2.5k is way out of my price range for a rifle of this type. It does look way cool though.

orsogato,I saw an HK 91 pre-ban at Ace Sporting Goods in Washington PA.Same gun?Are you from Washington?

Really I think it's nothing more than supply and demand. Now that they can't be imported, it drives the cost up. It isn't that good of a weapon IMHO but the same supply and demand prices can be seen with FN-FALs, AUG's, FA-MAS bullpups and every other weapon that was imported befoe the ban.

Ouch Gary - thanks for that painfull reminder! A HK collection from back then could earn you a nice African Safari today.

10 pre-89 aks in 87 = $2500

10 pre-89 aks in 00 = $10000

and i had more $ in high school too, go figure!

4V50 Gary, what are le agencies getting these types of hks for?

I'm not aware of any agency which is actively procuring HK 91/93 type rifles. In the classes or seminars I've been to, most agencies show up with the AR15 or M16. A few Springfield M1As show up and Mini14s.

Acquisition of newer HKs tend to be SMGs (MP5 and the newer HK UMP) for their entry teams.
Finally, no agency can afford those pre-ban prices of $2.5k for a rifle. It makes better budgetary sense to take advantage of the LE exception to purchase the newer HK36 rifle for less than half that price.

This will make you cry. B&B Guns in N Hollywood 1985. Check the HK heavy bipod for $99 (saw one for $400 2 weeks ago). $500 for a HK91 and just a little more for the 94.

Be sure to examine the prices on the Valmets at the bottom.

Ahhh Destructo6...

The good old days. Who'd a thunk we'd be bombarded with legislation that would effectively ban all assault rifles?

Orsogoto...

In a market where the supply of a particular item is "drying up", prices will continue to rise. Especially, popular quality items like the rifles made by H&K. In relative terms, 20 years from now (assuming we stagnate the gun control process) prices on these rifles could realistically be 2 to 3 times higher (if not more).

If you look at the price of an H&K in terms of your personal survivability under fire, then you'll have a completely different perspective of the current market price. They are fine rifles, field tested and proven under fire, durable as hell, and more accurate than most people are capable of. Save a few extra bucks and snatch it up before someone else does. A H&K 91A3 is worth between $2250 and $2650, assuming the condition is 98% or better.

Two quick points gentlemen:

1. I has always heard that Ace's,in Washington, prices were "high".

2. If the prices make you "unhappy", don't pay them. Years ago, when Dirty Harry guns were all the rage S&W, Model 29's, dealers were charging MSRP, or more for them. Nobody actually had to pay that price however, and when customers showed resistance to those prices, they came down. The market place still works pretty much the same way.

Interesting points all,

I understand the economics of the whole thing. Not only is the supply "drying up" The supply is set. No more pre ban guns will ever be manufactured for civilian markets. So yes if i were in to G3s that 2500 may not be a bad price.

Right now I have been content w/ "post ban" configurations of "assault" rifles. (Note none of these weapons, even the pre bans are true assault rifles b/c no selective fire capabilities)

But remember all, The Hi-Cap mag supply is set too. And if this new piece of legislative garbage goes through our illustrious federal legislature, no more will be imported.

My main point after all of this I guess is that I think all this gun control crap blows!!

In theory, the hicap mag supply is set. In REALITY, I have a feeling that all these hicap preban mags people keep "finding" were found fresh off some workshop production line.

4V50 Gary,

For clarification, I was alluding to actual prices of new LEA/LEO only HK weapons. Anyone have a price list or a link to where one's at? I like being able to quantify how much the government has screwed us on this banning bull sh*t.

HKs may be had directly from HK International. They have two price lists, one for state/local govt. and one for Fed. You can guess who gets the bigger discounted price.

Try http://www.botach.com for govt. prices on Colts assualt rifles, smgs.
