Pre Ban AKs

Hello, first post here. Have a couple of questions that I hope somebody can answer: 1) How do you determine Pre Ban status for Aks-is there s SN list somewhere? 2) with a threaded barrel + nut and spike bayonet folder can somebody fix an aftermarket underfolder stock? Always appreciate your guys help.
Thanks,
zxc

1) Don't know if there's a list of serial numbers somewhere, but here's one not-so-failsafe way of telling: look for matching numbers and at least two features of an assault rifle. That would indicate that the gun was, more than likely, built to assault rifle specs originally. If that rifle were post-ban, it'd be an NFA weapon.

2) After you have a threaded barrel and bayonet lug (and the capability of accepting large capacity ammuntion feeding devices, I assume?), you're already in assault rifle territory. Put the folder on it. There's now way to trace back to find out if it was equipped with one or not.

ZXC...........Tell me a little bit about what you have. I should be able to verify the status for you. Do not list the complete serial number. If you can tell me the first three numbers and how many numbers total. (123XXX XX)

Gotta love those AK's

Tell us the stampings. There are no Romanian or Bulgarian pre-Bush bans. Anything with a "Sporter" or "Mak90" stamped on it is post-Bush ban. The Bush ban was in 1989.

No stampings,I own a MAK 90 myself.Has Norinco faint stamp on the barrel. Has folding cruciform bayonet and 4 no SN without yr prefix on rec and bolt only. Thanks for all the help. Has an underfolder without trunion-kinda attached to rear tang thru a black hard polymer.

Sounds like a post ban model to me, all MAK-90s are postban and the most you can get away with is a pistol grip add full size mag with enough parts replaced with made in usa parts.

From my understanding all MAC-90 models are Post Ban rifles. I don't think "MAC 90" model was used on Pre ban imports.

That is correct.. MAK-90 stands for Modified AK (1990). They are made with the dredded thumbhole stock. You can change it to pistol grip configuration easy enough. You just need to mae sure that you replace 5 parts with US made Parts..

US made stock set= 3 total parts
US made mag follower and floor plate is 2 more.

PreBan AKs

Understand this is my second AK. The MAK was a NIB creature languishing in the dust until rescued now shoots 2-3inch @100. There is no mark on the rec on the PB AK-just importer mark.

No 56-S1 marks? If it's marked Norinco and no Mak 90 or NHM 91 marks (I'm assuming not a .223), then I'd think that it was pre - Bush ban. This JUST MY OPINION.
