Pre *&* 686 - 586

I am looking at buying a pre agrement 686 or 586
6" barrel. I have seen several 686's For 350.00 in exellent condion is this high, Low or Average???

Looks just a tad high for a 98 percenter. Check carefully for wear, a high miler will evidence grove in breech face from many openings and closings of cylinder. If grooved, leave. If not, then check out the rest of the gun.

Were it my choice, I would hold out for a 586.

The 586's and 686's are fantastic firearms; particulary with the 6" tube. And to make a
point, the 686-5 with the "beefed-up" part's
should be able to with stand "hot" magnum rounds
all day long; without a hitch!!! If you can
find a pre-sellout 686-5 by all means, snatch
it up. It will have the frame mounted firing
mechanism, instead of being installed on the
hammer.

Just looked at a used 686 at a local gun shop, which I'am considering and the asking price was $299.

My 686-5 8-3/8" better stand up. I paid a lot of money for it.

Picked up a "looks like new to me" 4 inch 686 this weekend for $265. Got a good price because it was the second gun of a two gun deal.

The one that Checks out best and looks LNIB is a 686-5 with 6" barrel. He is asking $375.00.
I have been working on him for a couple of months now at a local gun show, that we have at the Grange hall once a month, and the lowest he will go is $345.00, A tad to much I think. Well if he still has it in a couple of weeks when we meet again maybe he well come down more.

In my area of central Alabama, a NIB 686-5 is booking for $439.95, for the six-shooter and
slightly more for the 7-shot. So, with that
said, $345.00 might not be such a bad price
after all. I would imagine that in your area
686's are a hot item; considering all those
critter's that you have in those neck of the
woods? Accuracy from a 6" model 686 is just
outstanding.
