Practical to carry a fullsize 1911 concealed?

I have my vision set to carry a fullsize 1911 as a concealed weapon. For some reason I feel more comfortable with it. How many of you carry a fullsize 1911 concealed on a daily basis?
I'm not what you call "fit". I have a bit of a beer belly and slight love handles. I plan on carrying one on a belt-slide type holster on my strongside. IWB would be out of the question.

Just about every dadgum day since 1965. I've tried IWB holsters but have not found one I like as of yet. I use a couple of Lou Alessi copies of my old Andy Anderson "SHOPKEEPERS" holster. Lou has designed a new IWB holster that i am going to get to test.

Can people tell you carry a gun? Here in Texas it is a bit on the hot and humid side. Right now the mode of dress are shorts and t-shirts. I don't want to be easily pointed out.

Spirex288 I carry a Commander each and every day in a pancake from Gun Leather in Fort Worth and I wear pull over shirts. I'm 6-6 and can see 300 creeping up on the scale. I dont have any problems carrying like that, I just buy a shirt one size larger. If I really dress up fresh starched jeans and shirt I cover with a Smith & Alexander vest and I carry just fine.

I have carried the full size for about 5 years with a slight preferance to the commander size. here lately i carry the full size though ,but I am thinking of getting a para ordnance p10 for a carry gun.

I carry a Colt's .45 Lightweight Commander, in a Kramer Proline holster, or, in a Milt Sparks Yaqui Slide. I'm 6'2", 210 pounds, and as long as I have a light jacket or shirt over it, I have no problem. I always carry an extra loaded magazine, too. J.B.

I live in Central Florida, which gets just as hot as Texas, and I carry a Kimber Gold Match every day concealed. I wear a tucked in tank top, then put the IWB strongside holster on, then cover it with a polo shirt. Or I wear a tucked in T shirt and cover the gun with an unbuttoned, untucked button shirt or a light athletic vest. Key is a good, quality holster and especially a good thick belt to keep it from moving around.

Some very good suggestions.
You could also consider a SOB rig or even a shoulder rig. Hip, SOB, Shoulder, IWB all require an over garment to hide them. I prefer a denim shirt, open and untucked. The fabric is heavier and the way it hangs does not lend it self to printing.

I always hate mentioning these here because I feel like I'm advertising, which I do not want to do on TFL. However, the holster Terridarri and I are marketing is the most comfortable I have found for concealed carry. I have carried a 6" "N" frame Smith concealed for over twenty years and this is the first holster I've found that is truly comfortable. At shows we use a full size 1911 as a demo to demonstrate to potential customers the comfort of the holster. They all are amazed when she puts the gun on them. You can't feel it there. They are an elastic band (not a bellyband) that may be worn anywhere on the torso. I wear mine in a convential shoulder holster position under the "shirt of the day", usually a light weight western style snap up shirt. The gun will not print even under the lightest weight shirt unless it is skin tight.
My apologies for "advertising" here. :o

I remember the days of having to wear a 3 piece suit. You had to have a size larger jacket than normal, with the same sleave lenght, but it worked and a mag in each pocket sort of kept it from blowing open. Don't know what to do know.

The under the shirt thing sounds like it should work. Do you have a web site?

Spirex, you may want to do a search back a couple of weeks, there was a rather large thread started when I asked how many folks here carried full size guns. There were a lot of responses.

I am planning on carrying a full size 1911, I should be getting my permit in the mail in the next month. I just received in the mail one of Gunslinger's holsters, it seems really nice but I haven't been able to play with it much yet because right where I plan on wearing it I am still all bandaged up from surgery. I will give a full report when I have a chance to use it some more, but it looks really really cool so far.

I'm not to familiar with types of holsters. The one I keep coming across are 'paddle' holsters. What makes these special? Does it give you a wide range of movement? I do alot of driving and a lot less walking. I hope this will not pinch any body parts, ie FAT!! I also ran across a company named Fobus. Should I stick to the leather or go with the polymers?
Thanks fellers. The help is much appreciated.

I carry a sig 220 in a galco IWB holster.Like the man says wear a larger shirt.I'm 5'8" and 220 so not fir either.THis system has worked for me for the past 4 years.By the way i live in AZ so warm here too.One thing though we do not have to worry about printing as open carry is legal here.

Same song, new verse. I'm fat. Don't like to admit it, but there it is. I carry a Kimber ultra elite or Colt officer ltwt. in a Sparks vm-2 with no problem, but this is not about cut down pistols. When I carry my full size 1911, I use a middle of the back in the crack of my butt. It is the only place it won't print on me. I have tried a clip and it works well also, but since I rarely carry the full size, haven't seen fit to buy one. I mostly depends on you and your lifestyle. Here in south Texas where everyone wears loose fitting clothes, it isn't much of a problem.

Patrick, we don't have a web site for the holster. We do plan to put together some type of brochure as soon as possible but that will be a couple of months down the road.
We have sold several to TFL members, including Correia (thanks Correia ;)). I would be happy to answer any questions you may have about them either here or in e-mail, gunscustom@aol.com which may be more appropriate.

I've carried a P13-45 in a Dillion Desert Special (IWB) for five years with no problem. It fits well on my large body with no "love handle" pinching.

I should point out that what some are calling "love handles" are really GRAB BARS, and IWB is out of the question, I already have enough IWB W/O a full size 1911. Make mine a pancake and pass me that sugar free syrup please!
