Practical ammo suggestions for S&W 340/342

Now that I'm the owner of a Smith 340SC, I've read the "operator's" manual and am looking for some good standard-pressure self-defense ammo that will not "uncrimp" or "unseat" under recoil. Any one out there have any recommended loads?

I've heard Pro-load makes a good HP round that stays tight. I am considering RBCD and/or Magsafe Defenders also. (even though they're lighter than the 120 gr limit S&W warns against, I doubt I'm going to be firing too many of them, other than in a real emergency)

Although I don't consider myself recoil sensitive," I'd also like something in .357 mag that does not exhibit stout recoil. Yeh, I know, fat chance of finding that but I know there is a wide disparity in the handling characteristics of mag loads.

Appreciate your input.

Jeff, I carry 125 grain Gold Dot Plus P's from Georgia Arms in mine. I have never had a bullet to move in that loading, and it generates plenty of velocity. It is still controllable in the little guns, also.

Is that in .38spcl or .357 magnum??

Hello Clemson: I have several bags of Georgia Arms ammo and think highly of it: Is the 125 gr you speak of their .38 spcl? They make a 125 gr SJHP in .357 that's a standard load and it kicks like a ton in my 24 oz Taurus mod 605. I'd have to think twice about touching that stuff off in a 12 oz revolver! Thanks for responding.....

Now Jeff...

You know what I'm gonna say. Practice with anything you like. Carry RBCD's. (Practice a little with them too, so you'll know what to expect.) I DO carry Magsafe "Defenders" in my S&W 331, .32 H&R magnum. (Only because RBCD doesn't make ammunition for .32 mags.)
