Powder Measure: Ramshot Enforcer

Have used only a little Enforcer so far, but I noticed no leakage of any significance with either my RCBS Uniflow or my Hornady L-N-L.

Lyman Model 55 Classic.
I have yet to find a powder that will leak from the 55 . Because of the way it's made leaking is not a problem even with fine ball powders.

Nathan,

Where is it leaking out? Around the drum on one or both sides? If you let me know, I can run some Enforcer through mine as a test to see if it does the same thing.

I have an lnl powder measure from around 2003. It leaks. I wonder if it is wear related??

Is it leakage or static electricity? I can't picture an LNL measure like mine actually leaking unless the rotor bound up. I used the micrometer insert in a pistol rotor to set my powder weight on the LnL (with Enforcer).

None of the drum measures should leak if the parts are machined to adequate tolerances. The Redding measures are another example of that type. Whether you get tight enough tolerances or not may be a bit of a crapshoot with the main familiar brands. I would expect not only the Lyman design but the high-end horizontal metering chamber measures like the Harrel Culver-style measures not to leak. The charge bar style should also work fine if the tolerances are good.

Wear would be a factor if you have it. Most powders still have graphited coatings that should provide the dry lubrication needed to prevent excess wear. If you're using a lot of powder that isn't black or dark gray in color, you my want to run some graphite powder through the measure periodically to get lubrication to prevent wear.

If you have a set of micrometers and a set of telescoping gauges, you can measure your
drum and its bored journal in the body of the measure to see how much slop there is. If you know someone with a lathe, making a new drum that has a tighter fit isn't particularly challenging. However, you could also measure those diameters and ask the manufacturer if they can pick out a better fitting drum for you from stock.

This commercial paper on how to improve powder measures is worth a read-through, though it doesn't affect leakage, specifically.
