If you have high blood pressure or other medical illness think twice before playing this little cartoon movie posted on The Village Voice website. While we show pride at our logical arguments, our understanding of history, our egalitarian ideals and our safe use of firearms there are still those out in the world who hate us.

There is nothing really rational in this cartoon, nor is there any humor nor pathos nor literary merit. I am only posting it to remind the readers of the fact that just because we don't hate them it doesn't prevent them from hating us. Sometimes reading the dialog on TFL reminds me of stories told by Jewish friends who escaped Nazi Europe; there is an attitude that we are above all that and we can prevail and still be nice about it. Watching this little cartoon should impress the reader with the fact that we are in a culture war against people who hate us as much as the Nazis hated the Jews.

I find it revealing that The Village Voice is first and foremost a libertarian magazine when when measured by how much they would like to remove social restraints to their unfettered hedonism. But have a right which requires a measure of responsibility to work and they are agin' it. Have a right which demands self discipline and self restraint and they are agin' it. :(

This is an accurate assessment.

No reason to get your blood pressure up over silliness like this. Let 'em bleat all they want. I'll just respond by sending another $20 to SAF.

Well, I'M convinced. I'll just take my bling and my ho and go hide. And turn in my nine, too, by the way. The guy that wrote this MUST be from Kali or NY or some other fantasy land.:)

Bud,

Yes it was. They use words that could describe the situation in Iraq or Israel and apply it to the U.S. and the NRA.

Death & suffering cutting across religious & ethnic lines.
Extremist leaders preaching a twisted interpretation of sacred texts.
Poor gullible young people with no hopes or dreams except for a perverted idiology that promises virgins and riches.
A floundering democracy subject to the whims of extremists.
A cross-border arms trafficking network supported by factions within the government.

weird how..

I think it is weird how they pick and choose which Rights from the Bill of Rights they choose to defend. Like freedom of the press is ok. Freedom of speech is ok. But the Right to keep and bear arms.... bad , naughty.:barf:

If someone DARE to trample on thier Freedom of Speech/ Press rights... oh my.. the ACLU and every other "Protect our Civil Rights" group would be all over them. Makes me sick, and angry. Wait a second.., in thier eyes me being mad and a gun owner.... oh goodness........... there is going to be a shootout tonight, it is going to make North Hollywood seem like a drive by.

If ignorance is bliss, there is some EXTREMELY happy Kalifornian's and NYC'ers

VERY GOOD, blues man and bud. I am humbled by your accurate analysis and by your powers of observation.

---New Pledge, according to the liberals---
We the sheeple,
of the United Idiots of America,
and to the ridiculous, for which we stand,
one nation under gulibility,
with libritarians and injustice for all...

Anyone else taking out their big, bad, nasty, evil guns today?
You can sure as hell bet I'm going to enjoy my trigger time this afternoon. I have to add--my son walked in while I watched this pathetic little cartoon... His comment: "Who's the idiot that put that together??" BTW--He's 10. Smart kid.

Sorry to disagree but I don't think it is silliness. I heard songs like this in the 50's and 60's made up by little white children to taunt little black children and it reflected the same hatred which was spilling over to beatings, bombings and killings. The purpose of the cartoon is to dehumanize us and make it easier to hate us.

Was that Arabic music in the background?
I wondered at why he would do that and suspect it is probably an attempt to give the viewer a non verbal association between the gun rights movement and Islamofascism. Music is a powerful psychological motivator.

I might point out that though the VV is based in New York I have read conjectures that its readership now trends to middle aged white women nationwide. It would seem to have an appeal for people who want to be considered 'artsy' and sexually 'sophisticated'. I could post a couple of articles illustrating this but think them in poor taste for a public board. Posting this cartoon was bad enough and I apologise to anyone who might be offended by it.

Which makes it especially hard to not give in to their stereotypes and pop a cap in their punk ***'s...When I'm dictator I'm going to deport them all to Europe.

How ironic. The Village Voice showing a cartoon that states " A floundering democracy suffering at the whim of extremeists". From a mouthpiece of the Democratic Party, which has become the umbrella organization for just about every extremeist org. there is. Who'da thunk it?

I think the most offensive part of that cartoon was at the end where it pops up the message 'Send in the Peacekeepers!', which I see as a blatant request for the United Nations to step forward with gun confiscation.

In my minds eye, I do see such an *attempt* being made, at some point, maybe not in my lifetime though.

Didja notice the background?

In the first scene, "death and mayhem that cuts across..." or something like that, the setting was SAN FRAN-SICKO, home of the worst gun ban city council outside of D.C.

Talk about irony! Ban the guns and make the opening act of the anti's latest cartoon. :barf: :barf: :barf:

Just about...but not all. The Republican Party has the right-wing religious extremist market all sewn up. You know, the guys that want to destroy the first ammendment. So don't act so smug. (I only assume you support, to some extent, the Republicans because you are so quick to bash the Dems though, so if not I apologize)

Personally I was hoping when I opened the cartoon up to see something that would at least amuse me, or which I could see the point behind. I often can in anti-gun cartoons/editorials, despite my firm support of our second ammendment rights. Unfortunately I was disappointed, as this cartoon lacked any coherent point other than "guns are bad, mmmmkay..."

I hate our political system...we need a third party (hell, a fourth and fifth too) ASAP. Which, as far as I can tell, is going to require instant runoff elections. Of course, that is something that would have to be set in motion by the two parties currently in power, who have nothing to gain and everything to lose.

I'm just really sick of having to choose between the first ammendment and the second. I kinda like them both.
