The fools were elected by the idiots. The fools then decided that the idiots must be protected from themselves. (They knew this because the idiots elected them.) They then determined that guns could be used by the idiots for many things (Including defending themselves rather than relying on the fools to protect them.) and determined that nothing good could come of that. They wrote, and passed, laws that said that guns made after a certain date must be made with new and useless features, and undergo an expensive and meaningless test, so that the guns sold after that date would be idiotproof so that some fool wouldn't get shot for acting like an idiot.

That's the story.

Actually, it's not even actual laws passed by legislators that have given us these onerous regulations. They're regulations made by the Attorney General's office back when Scott Harshbarger was the Attorney General. For a lot more info on this travesty, go to www.goal.org and click on the "Regulatory FRAUD" link. I'd have posted a direct link, but it appears the GOAL site is down at the moment.

Depending on the State, the AG is elected or appointed by somebodyl who was elected. The story stands.

Yes, that story stands, as does mine about the legislative process being circumvented because there was no way they could have passed that through the legislature, even here.

I don't know if it's too late to get it on this ballot, but the problem is most people here aren't gun owners and couldn care less if gun owners get the shaft. A ballot initiative would need a good portion of public support, as well as something like 50,000 signatures to even get on the ballot. I believe GOAL is working to get legislation through the state legislature that would deal with the issue. Especially after their report on the matter, it could have a decent chance of passing. Now the ballot initiative to end the state income tax is something that could get enough popular support to go through. We'll see what happens though. If the legislature won't handle it, a ballot initiative along with a good PR campaign might sway enough people, especially since gun ownership has gone up since 9/11.

Try to get everybody to buy a gun on election day! I don't know what kind of message that would send, but everyone would get a gun!:D

Fine with me, there's enough ugly people here without ugly guns as well. But registrations for gun permits are up 10 fold since 9/11, so there is a sea change in public opinion. There is also an initiative to make MA a "Shall Issue" state.

MA has some screwy laws, but when I hear about waiting periods and stuff, I don't think we're the worst. But stay tuned.
