POST REPLY is not working

Evidently, the URL to this site has now been updated on the net, which seems to be causing the POST REPLY buttion to NOT call up the correct page. This appears to be because it still references the 'temporary" URL. Needs a'fixin', methinks.

Well ... Post Reply is not working from within SOME threads. "Hop To" doesn't work in all cases either.

I had to trim the URL back in the location window (Netscape) because I was bookmarked for the "Welcome to ... Forums" page. I had to find the parent directory (front door) from a text directory page.

Traffic may be light tonight.

Thank you Sensop. That was driving me crazy.

Well it will let me reply to this thread but not others.

Actually, you CAN reply to ANY thread. When you click on the REPLY button, and the CANNOT DISPLAY PAGE comes up, do the following:

Left click the mouse pointer over the ADDRESS window at the top of your browser. This will highlight the ENTIRE URL.

Press the HOME key. This will "unhighlight" the URL, and place the cursor at the very beginning of it.

Now, RIGHT ARROW out to JUST PAST the "HTTP://". Start pressing the DELETE key until everything up the the end of the "firingline/", but DON'T delete that "/".

Now, type "www.thefiringline.com" where the deleted section was.

Press ENTER, and you get a REPLY screen that works properly.

It sounds complicated, but it's really not. Just a bit cumbersome. I'm sure it'll be okay tomorrow, but for NOW, if you want to reply, you gotta do it.

Okay? Give it a try...

Oh, and the reason you can reply to THIS thread is that I posted it with the "new" (original, re-located) URL activated, NOT with the "temporary" one, which is what we've been using for the past couple of days.

Dennis is right for a temp fix..

It's not a Forum specific problem, it's a Post specific problem. For one reason or another (time of post?) some of the icons in postings point to the old directory, which no longer exists.

We're straightening it out with by updating all the threads...a long and fragile process, though it's automated. Currently AFCQC and Legal should be completely clean. I'm about to set out 21 robots, one for each Forum to try to speed it up...wish us luck!

Well, the server took the robots.....but my own computer crashed! (Why do I suspect that Bill Gates uses Unix at home?) It should be cleaned up by morning.

Patience all. This could only have been averted if we had set the new server up with the exact same file structure as the last one. Hear that, Eric?!!! Actually, Eric and Spark have both been real aces in helping out.
