Post-Ban Mini-14 Flash Hider Legal ?

AFAIK, as long as you don't have a folding stock w/ pistol grip, a bayonet lug, or any other of the Bad Things, a flash hider is legal.

I recently bought a Mini-14 used. How can I find out if it's pre-ban? The serial number is 184-62xxx.
*I found the answer on the Ruger website, my rifle was produced in 1985.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A PRE-BAN MINI-14 REGARDLESS OF THE DATE THE GUN WAS MADE BY RUGER. The Mini-14 was not one of the firearms banned by name and AS IT LEAVES THE FACTORY it is not a "semi-automatic assault weapon" as defined by federal law. However, if you add more than two of the following features, it becomes a "semi-automatic assault weapon" and you have just committed a federal felony: flash hider, bayonet lug, high capacity magazine, pistol grip (AR-15 type) stock, or folding buttstock. Therefore, it is OK to add a flash hider and high cap mags, but you cannot also add a pistol grip or folding stock.
