Possibility for local gun smiths?

I live in west central Illinois, and I have a standard ATI .45 1911. I want to upgrade some guts; skeletonized trigger, recoil springs, better grip safety, decent sight. How many of these parts can be ordered from one company?
What brand will work best?
Anyone know of any gunsmiths in Illinois? How do I ship a firearm to a gunsmith legally?
Can I ship out of state?
Rough estimate of cost? Sorry I have so many questions. Thanks though in advance

"You can't ship a firearm out of state. An Illinois FFL can."

Unless that is an Illinois law, it is not correct. Under federal law, anyone can ship any gun to an FFL holder in another state for repair or modification and have it returned directly (not through a dealer). The same applies to shipping to the holder of a class 3 FFL (C&R license) IF the gun is a designated Curio and Relic.

Only a licensed dealer can ship a handgun by USPS (the mail); shipment by a non-dealer must be by common carrier (UPS, FedEx), which is usually expensive. So some local dealers will (for a fee) mail the gun for you; the total cost may well be less than the common carrier shipping cost.

With all the anti-gun laws in Ill., I wouldn't doubt they would try to hinder it. However, it is legal for an owner of a firearm to ship a gun back to the manufacturer, and them ship it back, and the same applies to FFL holders, and anyone who wants to ship to a FFL holder (gunsmith or dealer), generally through UPS, etc, but not USPS, which is only with an FFL. (I thought in all states).

A small post office, in Ky., in the 80's, tried to deny shipping a firearm by our FFL licensed shop once, and we had to show them the law, in writing, to get them to do it. I don't think some of them are aware of it, even now.

Gunsmith in Central Illinois

Hi Flashover2011:

There is a gunsmith in Springfield, IL that can upgrade your 1911.

Don't know if he is close but you can give him a call. His name is Bill Oglesby

of Oglesby & Oglesby Gunmakers at (217) 487-7100. He is a member of the

American Pistolsmiths Guild @ www.pistolsmith.com/guild and his

father and grandfather were gunsmiths.

If you are close enough, you won't have to send it by UPS or FedEx you

will be able to drive there.

Hope this helps.

If you want to do a pistol project or DIY, see Brownells.com E-gunparts.com Midwayusa.com Natchezss.com NRA.org Deltapress.com Paladin-press.com .
There are many top 1911 pistolsmiths; Cylinder & Slide, Hilton Yam: 10-8 Performance, Wilson Combat, Dave Lauck, Gemini Customs, Les Baer, Larry Vickers, Robar Guns.

See the American Pistolsmiths Guild, www.americanpistol.com . They list many top pistolsmiths by state or what services they offer.
Keep in mind that top shops or gunsmiths can take weeks or months.
Parts may be on back order too.
The 2013 gun blitz caused a lot of backlog.
