Possession of Hunting Rifles/Shotguns

Maybe someone out there can help me on this;

My father-in-law was charged over 25 years ago, in the State of Nevada, with possession of narcotics. At the time, this was a felony. He was convicted of the charge. He is originally from the State of Pennsylvania and now lives in North Carolina. He is an avid hunter and has been his whole life. What is the law in regards to his possessing rifles and shotguns for hunting?

Thank you.

I think that heck is right. They just arrested a guy here for having a loaded clip and some other cartridges in his nightstand. NO firearms.

A friend of mine was in the 'importing' business MANY years ago and legally I don't think that he's allowed in my house due to the proximity of firearms.
