Im looking a a sp101 with a 3in barel in 357 mag and it is ported. Is haveing such a short barel ported a good thing? What are the pros and cons? Thanks.

Hard to shoot from retention; benefits more than longer heavier barrels

Hard to shoot from retention; benefits more than longer heavier barrels (higher gas pressure and less weight forward). Some say even more of a mess firing from the pocket - never tried that.

Jack Weigand's guns and such short barreled revolvers with holes have been highly esteemed by some people.

I have a Taurus 605 2" .357 that is ported.

The pro is that muzzle flip is reduced noticeably.

The con is that muzzle blast and flash are increased.

Both are relative. Any short barrel .357 is going to have a big flash and be very loud. There is also cylinder flash to consider which will occur whether ported or not.
