I am a newbie at this sport and I went out today to shoot some skeet,I am ashamed to admit I only hit 7 on the first round and 9 on the 2nd round. Boy,those things really come flying out of the house e's. the man who worked the button controler said I wasn't foolowing through and shooting right brhind them. I just need to get in a lot more practice. What do you think og those portable ones? cAN ONE PERSON OPERATE THEM SND SHOOT TOO? THANKS. SJ

The little portable ones work fine for small areas. You need to be able to make it stable, so either stake it down w/ tent stakes or mount it to a peice of plywood or a pallet. You can release the chucker w/ a rope looped on your foot. The ones I've used can only throw about 50yds though.

There's lots of old portable traps out there, most need an operator as well as a shooter. You may be better off practicing for skeet by shooting skeet, if the range is not far away.If not recruit your kids, SO or friends. We used to shoot lots of clay targets in a pasture alternating between shooting and operating the trap.

The two BIG flaws in most misses is stopping the swing and lifting the head. As you practise, keep focused and watch these.

HTH....

I use a Hoppes Clayking (I think it's called) attached to a auto wheel and do about half of my shooting pulling it myself. Takes some getting used to, but I think it's increased my speed just a bit.
