Poor Man's High Capacity 9mms

Caseless

"Poor Man" in this case refers to both financial and political situations.
The concept here is simple. Use apporpriate 40 S&W or 357 SIG magazines in 9mm pistols. Which mag/pistol combinations have you successfully tried at the range? Here are some full size all-day-range-guns I am interested in. I value your first hand experience.
Browning High Power 9mm - BHP 40 mags
Beretta 92 FS - Beretta 96 mags
CZ 75B - CZ 75B 40, CZ 40B mags
Glock 17 - Glock 22, 31 mags
H&K USP 9 - USP 40 mags
Sig P226 - P226/40 mags
Springfield XD 9101 - XD 9102 mags
Walther P99 - P99 40 mags

So exactly what is wrong with a real BHP in 9mm? Hi-caps can be had cheap and reliable and there is no real or percieved law circumvention to using 10rd .40 mags holding more than 10 9mm.

Springfield Xd9/hs2000 can use 15 round S&W 5906 mags.

They cost $13.99. New 10 round mags can cost from $15-$25.

The stock .40 mags work in the 9mm, but why would I bother when I can get more rounds in for less money?

I would say that the Beretta 92 has the cheapest and most easily available pre-ban hi-caps. Lots of mags sneak off military bases every year, plus there were a ton made prior to the ban and then later sold off as surplus.

Regarding the legality of using a 10 round .40 mag to hold more than 10 9mm rounds, if my understanding of the law is correct that is still illegal. I may be wrong, but I'll stand back and let one of you guys be the one to prove it in court. ;)

You left one off the list. The Ruger KP95DC. Standard capacity mags are still available and it costs less than $400 for the pistol. Used ones cost about half. :)

Legality Issues

are really irrelevant because I can't imagine anyone using one of the combos I listed for self defense(reliability issues rather than legality IMHO). These are all strictly for range use. Why would I bother with buying 10 rnd 40 cal. mags for 9mms? Because I want to obey the letter of the law in California regarding normal capacity magazine ban. Thanks for your inputs.

The HK USP's and Compacts apparently do fine when you swap them.

But for the full sized USP's, the full-caps aren't that much more than the Klintonized ones. New USP40 mags run around $35 - $40 depending on the tide. (Yes, CDNN does have them for $28.99, but they have that $8 or $10 flat shipping rate).

At any rate, you can usually pick up brand new condition USP9 & 40 pre-bans for $60 shipped from Robert Johnson (over in the for sale forum). I've got 6, and I didn't flinch at all, compared to the same $60 or $65 I payed for used condition NFML Glock 19 mags which cost $15 when they were new. I know the price is the same, but the inflation ratio is much lower on the HK :).

I've been curious about a similar issue as well.... In the reverse, what about inexpensive pre-ban 9mm mags functioning in .40 pistols that don't have pre-bans readily available for pistols like the CZ and BHP??

I've been using USPc 40 mags in my USPc 9 since round #1, now I'm at 1000 flawless, non-eventful, fun rounds.
I'm on the verge of picking up a USP 9 and doing the same w/ the fullsize 40 mags ;)

walther 9mm and .40cal hi-capacity mags are the same price.I would rather get the one made for my gun.
